Alexis Cole Horsemanship I have a simple goal; To help people better understand their horses.

~Find joy in the journey~ This never means to be cruel or unfair. I don't punish them."

I travel all over Southern California to work with "problem" horses. I gain respect using firm, but fair guidelines that are specific for each horse. If you find you enjoy what I do, we can most definitely work out a schedule. My virtues and method are made up of patience, leadership, trust, and respect. I have worked with numerous horses that have been called 'dangerous' or, 'problems' and have a

llowed them to become more respectful, supple and responsive. My experience with horses has been, for the most part, self-taught. I have come to realize that horses, like people are very unique and need to be worked with in accordance of their specific needs. My experience has taught me that like children, horses will test your leadership every day. And every day you must give them a reason why you're still worthy to be the leader. I draw lines and boundaries and expect those to be respected and followed. Horses in the wild work off this same system every moment of every day and all is done without hard feelings or excessive punishment. I have a saying, "I discipline my horses. I used to work on a ranch where the horses were treated quite unfairly in the way they were being handled. I took it as a lesson, however, and learned what it's like to have a horse work for you out of fear. I didn't want that kind of relationship with any horse. I work off the basis of tough-love. Be firm, but fair. I have also experienced the other extreme in where a woman would allow her horses to walk all over her, she would shrug it off with the excuse that the horse was uncomfortable, or just trying to be friendly. She would never be firm in her training and used 'air-pressure' in an attempt to get the horse to do what she wanted him to. It seldom, if ever worked, and as a result she has suffered from many differing injuries from being too lax or indecisive in her training agenda. As a result, she has brought up the possibility of her putting one of her horses down. I have a simple goal of bringing into this world a lot less horseriders and a lot more horsemen. Riding a horse is the easy part, it's just the act of not falling off. In being a horseman, you unlock a whole new network of communication and understanding.
