Sadie….This girl is a dog trainer dream demo dog. She currently trains under the NEPOPO system. She was going to be a detection dog but lacks the hunt drive needed. Currently she chases dragon flies, butterflies and grasshoppers when she’s not actively training.

Sadie is house & crate trained, has had some basic training, walks nicely on leash, is handler-focused, very food motivated! She accepts handling easily.

Sadie is extremely food motivated, focused during training and biddable.

Sadie would thrive in an active household who is looking for a demo dog. She’s young, fit, healthy, smart and energetic. She loves affection and attention and being in his lap.

Honeybun - Update day 11

This little ray of sunshine made a huge accomplishment today. She thought it would be fun to run up to men and get some attention. She came in ready to growl and bark at every male she saw. Now she’s decided males are fun to be around.

Honeybun update -Day 5.

Honey bun is doing amazing! Her social confidence is starting to heat up. She’s building excitement to run up to people and sit instead of jump, men aren’t so scary, and going to a kennel. One of our trainers, Rebecca, is handling her…and while she hates using flexi leashes, she crushed it with the flexi.

It takes two to break an animal. 1. The human 2. Expectation management- Training takes time. Set realistic goals. Exercise and stimulation. Socialization is Important.

Here is a great example of someone taking the time to read a dog, paying attention to a dog and giving the dog necessary space and subsequent structure to help make great strides. Remember- anytime you bring a new dog home, there is an adjustment period and the time that last is dependent on that dog and the new environment. Good Eveninng! After we posted information on dog training tool placemement, we want to extend more information on a way we use the prong collar. Today we are going to talk about a structured and unstructured walk.

In the first part of the video we are doing an unstructured walk. The rules for an unstructured walk are real simple...1. Sniff where ever you want...2. The dog is not allowed to eat anything off the ground. 3. Just be a dog and enjoy the walk.

The second part of the video is a structured walk. There is only one rule for the structured walk....1. Walk by my side and you are not allowed to do anything.

We would like to put a general announcement out about how to place training tools (i.e. Prong Collar, E-Collar) on your pet. Prong collars are based off of the weight of the dog. Too big they are ineffective and have the potential to hurt your dog, too small and they are very aversive for your dog and do have the potential for behavior problems. If you are going to use a Prong Collar it should go high on the neck and snug, not pushing into the skin. In the middle we have the E-Collar. Our favorite brands of E-collar are E-Collar Technologies, and Dogtra. The strap should be two fingers tight, and you should barely be able to squeeze a third finger in between the collar and the skin of the dog. Lastly the flat collar or furr saver this is your normal everyday collar that you would use when these other tools aren't in use.

We do have a Herm Springer certified prong collar instructor who can help and assist you.

Here is some food for thought for pet parents.

Dogs instinctively avoid pain because it hurts, not because they've learned a behavior is undesirable. This dispels the myth that they're learning to stop unwanted behavior. Instead, they associate you with pain, eroding trust, and the foundation of your relationship.

THIS ISN'T TRAINING; IT'S AVERSION.

Effective dog training doesn't require E-Collars (shock collars).

IT'S TRAINERS SEEKING QUICK FIXES WHO LEAN ON THEM, NEGLECTING ALTERNATIVE MOTIVATIONAL METHODS.

How can you spot this? Just look at the Dog’s body language.

Tail position: A low or tucked tail may indicate anxiety, fear, or submission.

Ears: Pinned back against the head can signify fear, nervousness, or avoidance.

Body posture: A lowered and crouched posture reflects feeling small or threatened.

Avoiding eye contact: Dogs may look away to show submissiveness.

Emotional impact: E-collars for suppression off behavior can lead to anxiety, fear, and aggression.

Lack of understanding: Suppression doesn't address the root causes of behavior.

Clear communication: E-collars, used responsibly with low-level stimulation, can offer clear communication.

Tailored to individual needs: Each dog is unique, e-collar training must be tailored to the dog specific needs for learning.
