This is Rocco. Rocco has boarded with us several times. We ALL love Rocco. But, like every dog, they have their person here. Rocco is a very low maintenance, very low energy, must-be-on-a-lap dog. If he really likes you, he’ll give you the cutest little smile, showing his pearly whites. During the day, his person of choice is Scott, and he spends much of his day in Scott's office, on his lap. He sticks near me when we're in the paddock because although he's not fearful or reactive, he doesn't want to be bothered by dogs, and he doesn’t like to run around. He knows I know that I'm his protector. Then, there's Kai. He's been his sleeping buddy from day one, even when our two other older children used to live here. As soon as supper is over, he makes his way to Kai's room, hops on the bed, and keeps Kai's spot warm until he goes to bed. Then, he snuggles right next to him, and sleeps all night long. That's his routine every single time he comes to stay. But today, a wrench was thrown into the plans. Scott did not work from home and went to the office. Rocco looked for him immediately when he came in, but didn’t find him. Then he settled for Kai's lap. Well, Kai went out for a couple of hours this afternoon....so there was me! At last! Sniff walks are so important. While physical exercise is essential, mental stimulation is just as necessary. Did you know that because of the amount of olfactory receptors that dogs have (40x more than humans!), they can determine if another dog has been there, if they are familiar to him, the sex and even the emotional state. Our Featured Guest is not only adorable, she’s a very special little girl. Daisy Mae first stayed with us almost 2 years ago, at 15 years young, and she has honored us with several stays since. There is so much we love about this girl. She is probably the sweetest, most independent Yorkie we have ever had the pleasure of boarding. She is definitely not a lap dog, but loves being loved on. She is funny, and extremely well socialized, not really bothered by anything or anyone. If she doesn’t like a situation, she simply puts her little tail in the air and walks away like a true lady. She’s very active for her age, and definitely loves her treats. But what we’re really celebrating about her today is that Daisy Mae is turning 17 (!!!) in just two weeks, and although she won’t be staying with us then, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do something a little special. We hope you enjoy her birthday pictures as much as I enjoyed taking and creating them.
