Dear GDCA Member:

As you know the 2020 National Specialty was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The GDCA Board of Directors(BOD) felt that if there was any way possible to reschedule some of the events affected, we would make every effort to do so. The GDCA BOD along with our Futurity Chair, Kathy Baraga are pleased to announce that at the 2021 National to be held in Myrtle Beach, SC the Futurity will be adding a “Senior” Class to the Futurity to allow dogs whom were entered in the 2020 Futurity but would become ineligible due to age restrictions in 2021.

Only dogs who have completed their 2nd nomination for the 2020 futurity are eligible for the “Senior Class” (if they have would otherwise be age ineligible for 2021). All other dogs who have completed their 2nd nomination for the 2020 Futurity and are still eligible for one of the normal classes will be able to enter the appropriate class in 2021.

At the 2021 Futurity in Myrtle Beach the Senior Class will be divided first by s*x then based on the size of the class they will be separated into Divisions.

As you may be aware this will add a substantial number of dogs to the Futurity. We have decided to add two additional judges. These judges were selected based on the vote counts received by the membership on the ballot for the 2021 Futurity. The judges for the Senior Class will be Jamie Harshfield from West Richland, WA and Kathleen Fontana from Troy, MI.

We still plan to hold the Futurity on the original dates of October 25th and 26th of 2021. With high entry numbers expected we plan to have two rings running at once during the day. Please understand this is all being done to accommodate those dogs who may never have had the chance to show in the Futurity due to the National being cancelled. We feel it is important to honor our breeders and the beautiful progeny they have produced.

The Futurity nomination process will proceed as normal for the 2021 Futurity. You must still make your 1st and 2nd nominations as normal. Those dogs who have entered the 2020 Futurity are already nominated but must still make their final entry by the deadline in 2021.

The Classes will be as follows divided by s*x:

3 - 5 Months
5 – 7 Months
7 – 9 Months
9 – 12 Months

Best Puppy Dog (RES), Best Puppy Bitch (RES)
Best Puppy

12 – 15 Months
15 – 18 Months
Best Junior Dog (RES), Best Junior Bitch (RES)
Best Junior
(The above classes will be judged by Fran Lass and Teresa La Brie ***)

18 months and up “Senior Class”
Best Senior Dog (RES), Best Senior Bitch (RES)
Best Senior

(The above classes will be judged by Jamie Harshfield and Kathleen Fontana ***)

Best in Futurity – This will include the winners of Best Puppy, Best Junior, and Best Senior

(The above class will be judged by Fran Lass or Teresa La Brie)

*** Classes and judges may change due to entry size at the GDCA BOD and Futurity Chair’s discretion.
