We would like to take a minute to wish JC a happy birthday! Today, she turns 9 years old. 🎉

She’s been a member of the Pinnacle family since she was 11 months old. We were lucky to get to spend her birthday with her and hope that when she gets home she gets to chase all the chickens!🐓

Is it a teddy bear? An otter? A squirrel? Lyla is actually a ferret, but just as adorable as the others. She is super curious, sweet, playful and active. Lyla and her sister Wren are here for exams with Dr. McMullan and they belong to one of our CSRs, Bree.

Today we had a visit from poor little Reagan. She was gagging this morning and had been a little lethargic. About 15 mins prior to bringing her in she began sneezing blood. 🤧After taking a quick look into her nose we spotted the problem! Dr. McMullan pulled out this 3.25 inch piece of grass out of her nostril! 🌱The sneezing seems to have immediately resolved and she seems to be feeling more like herself already!

We get to see lots of cute animals working at an animal hospital…. But we rarely get to see the level of “baby bunny with no ears cute”. This little guys name is Ph”earless”. Clever, right? 👂🏻

We aren’t sure why he was born without ears but we do know he appears healthy and happy and when he hops he looks like a jumping hairball.

Have you ever seen anything cuter? 😍

Two very exciting events this week! Today is National Hairball awareness day! (Very exciting, we know.) AND tomorrow is Carl’s 9th birthday! (Our retired clinic cat! 🥳) Woo! Happy birthday Carl!

First off, a hairball is “a cylindrical mass of hair that is regurgitated from the stomach of a cat.” The barbs on cats tongues collect the undercoat as they clean themselves. The hair then MOSTLY passes into the litterbox. 💩

If your cat has frequent hairballs we reccomend more frequent brushing, hairball specific diets, and there are even some oral lubricants such as Laxatone that can help.

It’s National “Scoop the P**p week!”💩 (Yes, we promise this is real!)

Picking up your pet’s f***s is important, even if it’s just in your own backyard!
1. Dog p**p isn’t a good fertilizer. Cow 🐮p**p makes good fertilizer because of their diet.
2. It can carry parasites and diseases. 🪱
3. It pollutes our waterways. Rain washes it into the nearby rivers and creeks and can kill wildlife and lower water quality. ☠️
4. It’s a nice thing to do! No one enjoys accidentally stepping in p**p with their bare feet or its unsightly appearance.

Even with being a responsible pet parent and picking up your pet’s waste, it’s still important to keep your pet on their monthly heartworm prevention. Yes, for the heartworms that are transmitted by mosquitos. Also, because most heartworm preventatives also treat for intestinal parasites that pets can get from eating stool.

Today we got to see Patsy for her annual. 👅We simply couldn’t handle how cute she was in her little avocado shirt. 🥑

We did her annual vaccines and she enjoyed a while her blood was drawn. We also sent her home with some car sickness medication since her tummy gets a bit upset on car rides. Thanks for visiting Patsy! We think you’re perfect! 👌🏼

Today Barley Ashe just came in for an a**l gland expression and a nail trim. 💅🏻With tech appointments, you usually just see the back staff and not the doctor.

Barley took advantage of passing Dr. McMullan while he was doing patient charts and used that opportunity to give him a hug. 🤗

Today we got to meet Angel! Angel is a feisty 13 year old miniature pinscher who presented to us with a UTI. Her urinalysis showed lots of blood and bacteria. 🦠

We sent her home with some antibiotics and a probiotic for her sensitive tummy and hope that she feels better in no time! ⏱️

Here at Pinnacle we love all attributes of our pets no matter how unique. Sometimes we can’t handle the cuteness of their distinct characteristics.

Today, that thing happens to be Giggs' naked booty.🍑It’s just too cute!

Although Giggs is perfectly healthy (lots of retired racing greyhounds have this), thinning fur can be a symptom of a low thyroid.🩸

It’s Easter Weekend! We would like to take the time to write a quick reminder to our clients that rabbits are not wonderful Easter gifts for children! 👨‍👩‍👧 However, we do think rabbits make great pets for responsible individuals.

Rabbits are not a great beginner pet. They are very delicate making them a risky choice for children. Rabbits also suffer from many health issues such as dental problems, URI’s, and GI stasis. 🦷They are also not a short commitment. Rabbits generally live to be 8-12 years old. They don’t do great in cages and require a large space to roam, play, stretch, and forage. We also recommend rabbits get yearly exams, yearly f***l examination, and in most cases that your rabbit stay up to date on the RHDV vaccine.(Just like Gojou pictured above!) It’s also important to spay or neuter your rabbit in order to prevent cancers and behavioral issues. Think of adopting a rabbit as almost as big of a commitment as a cat or dog. 🐕🐈

If you still think a rabbit would be a great addition to your family make sure to check local shelters before buying from pet stores or breeders due to how many rabbits are euthanized annually just for not getting adopted in a timely fashion. 🐇

In conclusion, we love rabbits but are saddened by how many rabbits go to shelters after being given as an Easter present. We highly recommend chocolate bunnies and stuffed animals for your kids! 🐣

March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day! Today we are respecting all kitties and Pi.

Pi is a big cat weighing in at almost 19 pounds! He came to see us today for the first time to get established with Dr. McMullan.

On Respect Your Cat Day we like to remind owners to engage in play with your cat. Cats love to hunt so getting them to pounce on laser beams, robotic toys, or a feather teaser helps them indulge their instincts. 🐭Also, giving them attention on their own terms. Allow them to come to you rather than forcing your affection upon them. 🤗Lastly, respect their nap time! Cats can sleep up to 18 hours a day! Let them nap uninterrupted! 💤
