Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc.

Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc. TxOESR, Inc. is a group of volunteers who give their time and love to the rescued Sheepdogs who come into our program.

We receive Old English Sheepdogs from both owner surrenders and shelters. Additionally, we coordinate with other rescue organizations throughout the United States, it‘s territories, Canada, and Mexico. We offer education and support to all who care for and love this breed. Many of our rescue Sheepdogs are in good health, but for whatever reason, need to find new homes. Occasionally, we receive a

dog in need of medical attention who we nurse back to health prior to placement. While the fee for adoption usually offsets any expenses that we may encounter with our dogs, this is not always the case. We rely on membership dues, donations, grants, and fund raisers to provide funding for these expenses. After an evaluation period in a foster home, adopted Sheepdogs arrive at their new, forever adoptive home with the following: medical history, microchip, vaccinations, groomed, spayed/neutered, heartworm negative (or treatment provided), parasite free and housebroken. It is our goal to have happy, healthy sheepdogs leaving our program with a brighter future for tomorrow. The credibility of an organization comes from years of stability which is built on a solid foundation of integrity and the reputation of the people who serve it.

Meet Ashby!!

Ashby is a sweet 4-year-old female OES mix with a loving personality! She was surrendered by her owner who was having another child and could not give Ashby the time, care and love she needed and deserved.

Ashby is perfect for any family. She is spayed, housebroken, leash trained, good with basic commands, and crate trained. Ashby does very well while off leash or in the house uncrated.

Ashby is a smart, gentle, and affectionate dog with a friendly and playful personality. She is a great companion and is always curious about the world around her. Ashby is a quick learner who is always ready to impress. She is good with children and is a calm and thoughtful companion. She loves to be included in all family activities and would be the perfect addition to any household.

Ashby gets along with other dogs. TXOESR believes she is the perfect fit for any household type, as long as she can be showered with love and affection!

If you think that you could be the right fit for Ashby, please contact TXOESR today to arrange a visit!

Ashby is giddy with excitement to find her forever family and home.

Update: 02/19/2025

The folks in Texas are incredible!!

TXOESR has found an adopter and transporter for Wolfie!

Wolfie is being adopted next week and will be traveling to Houston (rather than Dallas) to his new forever family!

A wonderful gentleman was found to drive from San Antonio to El Paso to pick-up Wolfie; then return. What a blessing!!

Just to be clear - TXOESR does not typically support transporting rescues. That is why as part of the TXOESR Adoption Application there is a commitment made to pick up the OES rescue by the adopter.

This situation is a little different. Wolfie was surrendered in El Paso and went to our only foster in that area. Unfortunately, all the applicants for Wolfie's adoption were in central Texas. And our current foster had plans for an extended vacation during March. So primarily, the need to transport fell upon TXOESR or pay for boarding in El Paso. But it has worked out perfectly.

Another OES surrendered rescue, Dugan, was also fostered by the same person in El Paso. Luckily and happily, Dugan was just adopted last week!!

So, the luck of the Irish came a few weeks early for TXOESR, the foster, Wolfie, Dugan and their new families.

But thanks to everyone for your support!

***************************************************

Wolfie Transport Needed before March 4, 2025 - as well as a New Foster / Adopter in the Dallas / Fort Worth area!!

Texas OES Rescue is looking for transport for Wolfie from El Paso, TX to the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

Soon, Wolfie’s current foster will be leaving for several weeks of vacation. Therefore, TXOESR needs to find a new foster or adopter. The Dallas / Fort Worth area provides TXOESR with more options for foster and/or adoption. But the immediate need is transport within the next two weeks. TXOESR will cover gas, meals ($25 per day), and hotel expenses (if necessary).

Wolfie is at one of our favorite foster's home in El Paso, TX. They have been working for the last 3 weeks with potty training, basic commands, crate training, leash training, etc. Wolfie has been great with other dogs – very puppyish – loves to play. He is current on shots and microchipped. He has not been neutered.

If you are departing from the Dallas / Fort Worth area, TXOESR can provide the necessary secure leashes & collars, crate for traveling, the current foster can provide Wolfie’s food for return trip or any other items needed for safe transport.

If you are interested in Transport, please follow this link and submit a Volunteer Application form:

Great news! All the Alpine Rescue dogs have been cleaned up and shaved. They have also received their medical evaluations and treatments. Not all results are in - but now they are current on vaccines and all tested negative for heartworms. TXOESR is waiting to hear on other tests and evaluations from the vet.

TXOESR was able to get the dogs shuttled to and from a local groomer to have the dogs shaved. We do not have pictures yet from the clinic, but the feedback is the dogs are so much more energetic having been clean and shaved. Initially, Bates was not able to walk but after the grooming, his standing and walking is much better. TXOESR should have pictures later today - so check back on this post.

Below are weight metrics on each of the dogs before & after shaving their matted fur.

Dog weight before shave - after shave - net loss of matted hair.
Bates: 65.2 lbs. 54 lbs. 11.2 lbs.
Hoss: 91 lbs. 79.4 lbs. 11.6 lbs.
Molly: 75.3 lbs. 67 lbs. 8.3 lbs.

Over 31 lbs. weight loss due to grooming / shaving matted fur from their bodies.

Thank you so much for the donations TXOESR has received for these rescues. TXOESR will continue to share donation & expense information with you as it becomes available.

If you want to help support the care and boarding for these rescues until TXOESR can find fosters or adopters, you can do so by following this link – designate the donation is for Bates, Hoss and Molly…

Meet Ralph!!

He is ready for new foster or adoption.

Ralph is a sweet just over a 1-year-old male. He is unaltered but TXOESR will be covering his neuter and microchip expenses in the near future. Ralph weighs in at 90 lbs. He is house trained, crate trained, somewhat ok with his other commands – sit, come, stay, down. Owner indicates he is leash trained and puppyish & playful. He needs the leadership of someone who will continue to work on his manners, behaviors and fun-loving nature as you would with any puppy you would adopt!

He is good with people. He is good with dogs and cats. Uncertain about younger children. Indoors – he has shown signs of resource guarding of his primary human. With his most recent foster / adopter, Ralph and George were rescued and being acclimated to their new home. Unfortunately, the teenage child was scared by the resource guarding behavior of Ralph, so TXOESR is removing him from the home. Our hope is we can find him a family that understands herding breeds and can work with him on his resource guarding tendencies.

Ralph and George were not a bonded pair - both being of such a young age. George is still with the rescue foster / adopter and is adjusting well to the family.

Let’s find Ralph his “forever family” so he can bring all his happiness and love to them!

Update – Alpine, TX OES Rescues – Bates, Hoss & Molly

02/05/2025

All 3 OES rescues in Alpine, TX have made it to Fort Davis Animal Services in Fort Davis as of Saturday Feb 1, 2025. TXOESR is excited to get Bates, Hoss and Molly under protection and shelter in order to begin to care for the neglected dogs.

And Thank You to the folks on staff and the vet clinic, who have stepped up greatly to welcome and care for these rescues. TXOESR so appreciates their wonderful efforts to help heal these pups. They are acting as an extension of TXOESR, and we are in communications daily.

TXOESR has some more pictures of Bates, Hoss and Molly from the veterinary clinic. The rescues are in worse shape than TXOESR initially thought. And at this point, TXOESR still does not have all the information needed to determine treatment as part of the next steps.

Definitely priority #1 is getting them all bathed and groomed. Then we can provide veterinary care (shots) and do f***l exams and testing for heartworms. Bates (9-year-old) is having issues with movement (could be from matts). Hoss (7-year-old) seems to have a tumor of some sort in his mouth – to be determined. Not sure of each dog’s weight and malnourished condition – more to come after the groom.

The care givers at the vet clinic said they are wonderful dogs (“All seem to have nice personalities and are biddable, if shy). So they will make wonderful pets for the right family in the near future…

So, the work starts now…. and the expenses.

Estimated costs will run about $5,000 for a month with boarding, their veterinary care and their grooming. If TXOESR runs into any real health issues – tumors, heartworms, etc. the $5,000 estimate could really ballon!! But our fingers are crossed – and prayers being said hoping nothing critical surfaces in any of these rescues. Current donations have come to just over $2,000.

A chart will be updated showing donations and expenses by week – to keep everyone apprised of the contributions by
Boarding costs are:
• $26 per night per dog
• $80 per night for all 3 dogs
• $560 per week for all 3 dogs

Vet costs for standard shots & tests – approximately $350 per dog

Grooming – approximately $200 per dog

If you want to help support the care and boarding for these rescues until TXOESR can find fosters or adopters you can do so by:

Meet Wolfie…. Available for Adoption!!

Wolfie is a cute 7-month-old male OES looking for his forever home.

He is currently located in El Paso, TX and has recently been surrendered to TXOESR. He was in a family with four small children (ages 11 to 3), 2 other dogs, a cat and mother & father who both worked. There was not enough time to properly train and socialize Wolfie. Currently, he is not house broken and socialization skills with dogs is a work in progress. The other dogs seemed to not welcome the puppy into the family. He and the cat tolerated each other – without chasing. And the family loved him but knew Wolfie needed more time, love and training.

Now, Wolfie is with one of our favorite foster homes in El Paso, TX. The family is also fostering Dugan (a 6-year-old male also available for adoption) for Texas OES Rescue. Their plan is to work with Wolfie on socialization, potty training, crate and leash training – with the help of Dugan and her two doodles. He is puppyish and very loving. And the foster will certainly work on Wolfie’s obedience and behaviors.

Wolfie is current on all vaccines – booster shots are slated in the next two weeks. He is microchipped. And at the appropriate age, TXOESR will finance the neuter for the puppy. So, if you have the time, energy and commitment to work with a spunky, loving puppy – Wolfie is your guy!

If you are interested in Wolfie, please submit an Adoption Application by following the link below:

Update – Alpine, TX OES Rescues – Bates, Hoss & Molly

Great news on TXOESR newest rescues – Bates, Hoss and Molly!!!

The issues of 1) remotely located in Alpine, TX. 2) not being current on vaccinations, 3) not being groomed and 4) purely outside dogs, have made the TXOESR rescue efforts a little more challenging to say the least!

The original senior owner has been having severe medical issues over the past year. So, her senior neighbors have been trying to provide care for the dogs for her. But ultimately, it has become too much for any of them to handle. And the dogs have not received the care they truly need and deserve.

Most veterinary care facilities and boarding facilities in the Alpine, TX area could not assist in boarding since shots were not current for Bates, Hoss and Molly. For most providers, the shot requirements (initial shots & then booster shots) would delay boarding for 3-4 weeks.

Fortunately, with the assistance of the neighbor care giver, TXOESR located and engaged Fort Davis Veterinary Services located in Fort Davis, TX was able to help immediately!

Bates, Hoss and Molly will be moved to their facilities this coming Friday and receive the medical treatment and ongoing care they deserve. After the initial medical treatment, the baths and trims will be given to each of the OES rescues.

The boarding facilities consist of inside and outside kennels with runs outside for them to play. The rescues are spayed & neutered. A second series of shots will be provided if they happen to still be boarded at the facility within two weeks. So, all this is good news for Bates, Hoss and Molly!

Concerning these three OES rescues, they have been outside dogs and so they are not housetrained. Unlikely, leashed trained as well. But they are loving dogs, as attested to by the owner and her friends. They bark (from the kennel) when someone approaches the property (good guard dogs). But if they are in the yard when someone approaches, they are cautious and stand-offish until they feel comfortable with you.

Bates is the 9 years old sire of Hoss and Molly – both 7 years old. None are bonded to the point of anxiety if the others are not there.

Hoss and Molly usually are the ones who play together. There are no signs of aggression by any of the dogs. Hopefully, the vet’s staff at Fort Davis can give us more insight into them over the next week or so.

So now you know as much as TXOESR about these wonderful OES rescues! And help is still needed to find forever homes for these dogs. TXOESR will continue to give updates on Facebook and our website. And more recent pictures will be available in the coming weeks.

If you want to help support the care and boarding for these rescues until TXOESR can find fosters or adopters, you can do so by:

1) Donate to Texas OES Rescue by following this link – designate the donation is for Bates, Hoss and Molly…

Or

2) Call Fort Davis Veterinary Services at (432) 426-3086 and donate by credit card to the Texas OES Rescue Account for Bates, Hoss and Molly.

If you would like to foster and help develop the socialization and other skills of these OES rescues, please complete a Foster Application by following the link. Please specify which rescue you would like to foster.

Texas OES Rescue's newest hopeful project - Tim!!

And TXOESR loves this sweet little guy!

You can come back and review updated pictures and videos as he goes thru training.
____________________________________________________________________

Tim is a 60 lbs. 9-month-old male TXOESR pulled from the Denton, TX shelter just before New Years Eve. TXOESR had him neutered the day he was removed. Because TXOESR could not locate a foster, he was placed in a boarding facility for the next 3 days. Unfortunately, his care wasn’t the best.

This past weekend, Tim was moved to a better facility with trained dog handlers – Proven K9 Training DFW. Their feedback has given us some insight into his behaviors. He is an extremely anxious, very high energy puppy, has not had any positive training experiences and surely not given ongoing direction, correction, safety and love. He loves nibbling (not biting).

The feedback from trainers has been positive as TXOESR continues to get regular feedback. The expectation for the next 4 weeks of board and train are: 2 weeks of working with onsite trainers on behaviors and socialization followed by 2 weeks training with TXOESR staff and potential foster / adopter.

This training is expensive but well worth it to rescue Tim. His future forever family will have free training for life for Tim as well as discounts on boarding Tim at their facility.

If interested please submit a foster or adoption application from our website:

***** TXOESR Sad News ***** 01/08/2025 5 pm Mountain

I don't have a lot of information right now, but Quigley's foster just informed us that Quigley passed away in the past hour.

We suspect his heart just gave out - but when we know more we will share.

Thank you to all those who donated already - it will help cover his original treatments and 1st cardiologist visit.

Thank you - say a little prayer for Quigley tonight as he passes over the rainbow bridge.

***************************************************************

***** TXOESR Medical Donations for Quigley *****

Quigley, a 4-year-old OES weighing 35 lbs., entered Texas OES Rescue as a transfer from another shelter in late September 2024. He was a mess! And his initial care included vaccinations and severe grooming needs. But after being shaved, we saw Quigley was very emaciated. He had been diagnosed with a grade V/VI heart murmur. The vet, which TXOESR has been working with, prescribed medications followed up by a cardiologist visit which occurred on December 31, 2024.

At the initial consultation with the cardiologist, tests and x-rays were performed to help diagnose what was causing Quigley’s heart issues. Unfortunately, the prognosis was not very good. The cardiologist’s initial take is he is suffering from congestive heart failure or has fluid on his lungs. Medications were prescribed to treat the fluid buildup on the lungs over the next 3 weeks. A follow-up appointment is scheduled for late January 2025 to determine if there was improvement in his condition and determine next steps.

With congestive heart failure, his life span is around 18 months – with proper care. If fluid buildup in the lungs is the issue, a different treatment will be required.

Either way, medications will be a part of Quigley’s life from here on out. And TXOESR will be looking for a permanent foster for Quigley. TXOESR will help with medication expenses and follow-up vet appointments for the foreseeable future for Quigley.

So here is where you can help…

Quigley’s cardiologist appointments are $1,500 for each --- total $3,000.

1st Vet visit & EKGs ---$500.

His medications for November 2024 through January 2025 - approximately $500.

Until his final diagnosis, his monthly medication expenses are not clearly known.

TXOESR is looking for donations to cover most all these expenses – as we still have several OES rescues receiving heartworm treatment and spay / neuters on other OES rescues being surrendered.

So, if you can help ---- please follow the link below to submit a donation for any amount! Every donation would be so appreciated by Quigley and Texas OES Rescue! Make sure to make donations as Quigley Care.

https://form.jotform.com/62893680348266

Thank you so much for the donations and prayers for this little guy. TXOESR wants to give him the best possible life. He has already been through more than any pup should have to endure.
