🌟 We are absolutely thrilled for Re*****on and his exciting new beginning—on a horse ranch, no less! 🐴🐾 This sweet boy now has a life filled with belly rubs, furry friends, and open spaces to explore. 🥰

His foster dad, Howard, shared some touching words about their time together:
"Congratulations to Re*****on. It was so hard to let him go, but he’s clearly found a great place, and some super nice humans to provide him with a whole new life with other dogs, horses, and belly rubs. Many thanks to North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue for allowing me to be Re*****on’s foster dog dad. It felt like the right way to honor Huck’s memory and helped me to get through his loss. If you’re even thinking about being a foster-dog parent, do it! It’s rewarding and so worth the experience to bring dogs and people together. The house feels different without Remi, but I’m so happy for him and his new humans."

From scared and uncertain in the shelter to completely relaxed in his foster home—all in less than 12 hours! 🐾💖

Klaus is already settling in and showing his gratitude the best way he knows how—with nose boops, tail wags, and the sweetest puppy eyes! 🥹🐶 Just look at this cuddle monster! 💕

🚨 URGENT: Klaus Needs a Hero! 🚨

We just got word about Klaus, a sweet Aussie boy (2-3 years old) who is out of time. This poor guy is at the shelter, confused, scared, and stressed in the shelter environment. Stress can some times, cause aggression, he will need space to decompress. His people never came to pick him up, and now he’s wondering why he’s been forgotten. 💔

The shelter is overcrowded (its a tiny shelter), and if we don’t find a foster for Klaus by 2 PM TODAY (1/24), the unthinkable will happen.

👉 We NEED a foster in the DFW metro (within 1-2 hours) to step up NOW.
We’re ready to pull him and give him a second chance—but only if we have a safe place for him to go.

Klaus deserves better. He’s nervous right now (who wouldn’t be?), but we know he’ll thrive once he’s out of this environment. Let’s be the miracle he’s waiting for.

Meet Frijole, this sweet little dachshund with a heart as big as her story! She spent her early days in some pretty rough conditions with a breeder in Oklahoma, but through it all, she stayed gentle and loving.
Fast forward, and Frijole found a wonderful adoptive mom who spoiled her with all the cuddles... until, sadly, her mom passed away.
Now, Frijole is back with NTASR, and we’re hoping to find her a new family who will love her just as much. She does have a few health challenges, but nothing can dim her sweet spirit.

Here’s more about her from her amazing foster—could you be the one to give this girl her forever home? 💖

"This little brown weiner dog goes by her rescue name of Frijole.
Frijole spent her early life making babies for an Oklahoma breeder. No doubt, living in sh*tty conditions, suffering from a skin allergy and never truly knowing love. But don't worry, Frijole didn't let that phase her. Frijole is calm, sweet, gentle and so grateful for her warm bed and snuggles. I have to believe she made some top-tier puppies -- she had to have been the sweetest momma.
Early in 2022, she was rescued by the amazing folks at North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue after she was "discarded" by her breeder, probably not producing as many babies as they wanted.... how many litters can a 10lb. dog have?! argh.
After we fostered her a few months, she got adopted to the sweetest lady. Frijole's new momma loved dressing her up, spoiled her rotten and gave her all the cuddles. Sadly, Frijole's adoptive momma passed away unexpectedly this winter and poor little Frijole is once again an orphan.
Frijole found her way back to us and we couldn't be happier to have her again. Unfortunately, this time Frijole came back to us with some health concerns, the most significant is her enlarged heart. She's gotten much slower than I remember. And as heart conditions go, even with meds, we don't know how much time she's got left -- but she needs a HERO.

Hey friends!👋
Quick update on the Arkansas pups—so many of these sweethearts have tested positive for Ehrlichia (ugh, ticks 🙄). It’s a tick-borne illness that affects their blood and makes it harder for their bodies to heal.

What is Ehrlichia?
It’s a nasty little bacteria that ticks pass to dogs, and it can cause all kinds of problems like:
😴 Lethargy (low energy, poor pups)
🌡️ Fever
🍴 Loss of appetite (who doesn’t love a good meal?!)
🩸 Blood clotting issues
Basically, it’s no fun for them and can even complicate surgeries like spay/neuter.

Here’s what we’re doing:
We used a 4Dx SNAP Test—a quick blood test that checks for things like Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease, Anaplasmosis, and Heartworm—and started the pups on antibiotics. They’ll need about 30 days of treatment before we can get them ready for adoption. 💊

🐾 Fostering-to-Adopt: What Does It Mean? 🐾

We’ve been getting questions about what it means to foster-to-adopt, so here’s the scoop! 👇

What is fostering-to-adopt?
When you foster-to-adopt, you’re opening your home to a dog in need while they complete their vetting. You’ll care for the dog just like they’re already a part of your family. Once their vetting is all clear and they’re officially ready to be adopted, you’ll have first dibs on making them yours forever! 🏠❤️

What does fostering-to-adopt entail?
- Vetting Trips: As a foster-to-adopt home, you’ll be responsible for bringing the dog to their vet appointments, including vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and other medical needs. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you every step of the way!
- Care Like Your Own: You’ll provide daily care, love, and structure, helping your foster dog adjust to home life and start thriving. Think of it as a trial run to see if this dog is the perfect fit for you!

FAQs
- Do fosters get priority to adopt?
Yes! Fosters always have the first opportunity to adopt their foster dog before the dog becomes available to other adopters.
- Is there a discount for fostering-to-adopt?
While we don’t currently offer a discount, fostering gives you the unique chance to truly get to know your potential new family member before making the lifelong commitment.
- What if I decide not to adopt?
No problem! Fostering still helps save lives, and we’ll find the perfect home for the dog when they’re ready. You'll make a bio, send photos and our communications team will do the rest!

🚨 Central Texas Fosters Needed! 🐾

Oh, Texas weather, you sure keep us on our toes! 🥶 With another freeze headed our way, 13 Aussies under the care of our partner rescue, Herding Home Animal Rescue, are desperately in need of foster homes to keep them safe and warm. These pups are part of a breeder surrender (we took in Casper, Rhonda, Charlotte). They have been vetted they just need a warm place to go!

These sweet pups were living outside with little to no protection, hadn’t seen a vet in years, and needed serious care. They’ve come so far, but there are still 13 dogs packed into pop-up kennels just to stay warm.

🐾 Introducing Tail-Wagging Tuesday! 🐾

Every Tuesday, we’ll share an inspiring story of a rescue dog who found love, hope, and healing thanks to the incredible power of fostering. From shy beginnings to heartwarming "happily ever afters," these transformations are proof that patience and compassion can change lives—both theirs and ours.

First up, we’re sharing the story of Joey, a sweet pup who overcame his fears to find his forever family (spoiler alert: it’s his foster family!).

Joey’s Journey (as told by his mom Winger-Covell)

When we brought Joey home on Valentine’s Day 2024, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. He came to us as a foster with a pretty nasty bacterial infection in his digestive system, and on top of that, he was absolutely terrified of everything. Between cleaning up after him and trying to comfort him through his fears, we were definitely feeling the challenges.

But here’s the thing—Joey taught us something invaluable: patience and love can work wonders. Once his infection cleared up, we realized the biggest obstacle wasn’t the mess; it was his fear. That’s when our other corgi stepped in as Joey’s unexpected mentor. Little by little, Joey started to come out of his shell.

At first, walking on a leash was a no-go, and the groomer? Forget it. But with time and gentle encouragement, he learned that the world wasn’t so scary. He even started exploring places outside the house, meeting new people, and building his confidence one step at a time.

Fast-forward to today, and Joey is truly a different dog. Sure, he still gets nervous, but he LOVES his mama and is the most dedicated snugglebug you’ll ever meet. This past Christmas, he barked for the very first time, and just last week, he growled for the first time—finding his voice has been such a joy to witness!

In November, he handled his first road trip like a pro, snoozing the whole 10 hours. He did amazing at my parents’ house—a completely new environment with new dogs—and loved every second of saying hi to all the humans. Now, Joey enjoys trips to the dog park, leisurely strolls through PetSmart (where he always picks out the perfect bone), pup cups, and, of course, running laps around the coffee table at mealtime because he’s just *that* excited about food.

We knew fostering would be rewarding, but Joey’s journey has been nothing short of magical. After seeing how far he’s come, there was no way we could part with him. Joey has officially found his forever home—with us. 💕
