We say it time and time again... working for an open intake shelter can be SO hard. Then we have days where we get to meet incredible people doing whatever they can to make a difference. This sweet girl wanted to help our shelter dogs so she wrote them a letter and asked to give it to the dogs. Pictured here is our sweet guy, Charles. You might recognize him from Arlington Police Department's Furever Friday pick of the week! We hung the letter and picture in Charles window and we all hope this will inspire someone to adopt him.

We would love to fill our adoption walls and windows with more letters and drawing for our shelter pets. If you have a young animal lover at home, please encourage them to draw a picture of a shelter pet or write a letter to them. Maybe we could get enough for every single pet at Arlington Animal Services.

Asher, our longest resident shelter dog...
You already know him.. he has been featured by our friends at the Arlington Police Department for Furever Friday and he went to FOX 4 News and was featured on The Ten. This sweet face has waited far too long. Asher is a happy, tail wagging ball of energy who has been patiently waiting longer than any other dog in our shelter. Asher is just a year old and full of love. He is the kind of dog who will greet every day like an adventure and every person like a best friend. Whether it's playing fetch, exploring the play yards or flopping over for belly rubs, Asher brings so much light to everyone he meets.

He is heartworm positive, but here is the thing, Arlington Animal Services is covering the cost of his treatment. All he needs is a loving home where he can heal safely and a human or family willing to give him a real chance. Despite everything, Buddy hasn't stopped smiling. He believes his person is out there and we do too. If you have been thinking of adding a dog to your life, maybe consider the one who has been waiting the longest...

It’s time!! 😁

And today we would like you to meet Officer Chu and his furry friend Charles! Officer Chu is a Patrol Officer and a Drone Pilot in the South District. But the star of the show is his big calm companion, Charles — a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix!

Charles is a sweet and gentle giant who is definitely not shy and eager to learn. He’ll need a patient family but is incredibly friendly. 💙

If you’d like to give Charles a “furever” home, you can visit her at Arlington Animal Services, located at 1000 SE Green Oaks Blvd.

Be sure to give shelter staff her ID number when you arrive: A0058602913

‼️‼️Attention please‼️‼️
Our city fireworks celebration is tonight!! We are just a few hours away, but there is still plenty of time to take some extra precautions to make this a fun and safe weekend for everyone. Pets included!!
💥PETS AND FIREWORKS DO NOT MIX💥
🛑Do NOT bring your pets with you to watch fireworks. They are NOT safe there, even on a leash or harness!!!
❤️ACCIDENTS HAPPEN! But there are many easy things you can do to try and prevent them. Example -keeping your pets safe and secure at home. (THIS DOESNT MEAN LEFT AT HOME WITH THE DOGGIE DOOR OPEN. Close the door!) Also, for the next few nights, go outside with your dog. Keep eyes on them!!! When inside, distract them with their favorite toy or a special treat like a peanut butter filled kong! Also let them jam! 🎶 🎵 Turn up some music or the tv to help drown out the noise of those big booms!!
🚨CHECK YOUR FENCE PICKETS!!! The fence may look secure, but boards can be loose and even a big dog can find a way out when they are scared!! Gates can fail to securely latch or break; so please, double check them today. (Again, accidents happen!)
❌DONT ASSUME they won’t be scared if they aren’t frightened by thunder or haven’t been bothered by fireworks in the past. Just don’t even take the chance.
⭕️PUT THEIR COLLARS ON!!! Even if you don’t have a tag with current identification, get a sharpie and write their name and your phone number on the actual collar!! OR use masking tape or painters tape. Easy and simple. While you’re doing this, go ahead and take a GOOD, clear, updated picture of all your pets. (Again, accidents do happen!!!) If they do go missing, Post that picture EVERYWHERE!!!
🆘 THE SHELTERS ARE FULL!!! Arlington Animal Services is FULL. EVERY surrounding shelter and rescue organization is FULL or OVER CAPACITY!!!! If your pet goes missing and hopefully ends up safely at the shelter and not hit by a car, YOUR DOG is taking the space of another stray or unowned dog. Shelters only have so much space. Then euthanasia must happen.
⚠️Arlington Animal Services will be closed Friday, in observation of Independence Day. If you lost or found a dog while the shelter is closed, you can find assistance on what to do here: https://www.arlingtontx.gov/City-Services/Animals-Pets/Lost-and-Found-Pets. There is so much our community can do to assist us in reuniting missing pets with their owners.
❣️❣️❣️❣️PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE (can you tell we are begging), take the extra steps this weekend. We do not want to see beloved pets go missing because they were scared during fireworks celebrations. And again, SHELTERS ARE FULL!!!! We need your help.💔

FIREWORKS + PET AWARENESS = RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP..........................................................................................................................
Tomorrow the City of Arlington will kick off the festive holiday weekend with it's annual, Light Up Arlington firework celebration. Simply put, pets and fireworks DO NOT mix. Please take the necessary steps to keep your pets safe this holiday weekend.

🔴NEVER take your pets to outside fireworks celebrations.
⚪️Bring your pets INSIDE, especially beginning tomorrow though the weekend. When you let your pets outside, go with them. Check your fences and gates extensively to ensure they are secure. Having friends and family over? Please ask them to secure doors and gates behind them. Remind them of your furry best friends and ask that they help keep them safe.
🔵Collars, ID Tags, and Microchips are important and help ensure your pet gets home as quickly as possible. OUR SHELTER IS FULL! Every shelter in the entire state is full. Accidents happen, but having up to date identification on your pets gets them home ASAP, helping save critical kennel space for a homeless pet in need. Please put collars with identification on your pets. UPDATE YOUR MICROCHIP INFORMATION TODAY!! It's not too late.
🔴Like we mentioned, accidents happen. Take a current picture of your pet today to have in case they go missing. Familiarize yourself with local lost and found pet groups on social media and take a moment to learn more about what you can do if you find a lost pet or your pet goes missing on our website. You can access our lost and found page here: https://www.arlingtontx.gov/City-Services/Animals-Pets/Lost-and-Found-Pets

It's time to meet our Staff's pick for Pet of the Week!
- Meet Deuce
This five year old male Pit Bull Terrier mix is white and black in color and weighs 55 pounds. Deuce is a fun-loving, friendly pit bull terrier mix who’s ready to bring joy and energy into your life. This happy-go-lucky guy has been at the shelter for a month now, and with our shelter currently over capacity, he’s more than ready to find his forever home. He loves meeting new people and making doggy friends. His tail never stops wagging, especially when he’s getting ear rubs and being told he’s a good boy. This playful, energetic pooch enjoys every second in the play yard. While he may be a little bit of a jumper when his enthusiasm gets the best of him, he listens well and corrects easily. He walks well on a leash and would love a home where he can continue to learn and grow—obedience training would be a blast for this smart pup. If you're looking for a dog with personality, charm, and tons of love to give, Deuce would be a good choice. He's waiting for you with a wagging tail and a hopeful heart. Meet Deuce in Dog Adoptions (DA) 6, his ID number is A58607516.

Good morning from Arlington Animal Services! 🐾Chances are, if you are seeing this post, you probably know about a cute little dachshund mix named Marshmallow, looking so cute in the window, begging to go home. We also want to share we have a shelter full of cute dogs looking in their windows! Like January the Yorkie, pictured here. This is a reminder - if you are looking to adopt a certain breed or size of dog, check our adoptable website frequently! New pets are becoming available almost every day.

Just a couple more reminders ✨
- All adoptions are first come, first serve.
- Adoptions must be done in the shelter. - -Arlington Animal Services is unable to hold a pet, and you must be in person to complete the adoption.
- Most of the animals who come into our care are pets who have been lost and then found. The longer a pet is in our care, the more we get to know about them, but unfortunately in a shelter environment, it’s pretty hard to tell if a dog is housebroken. Thankfully, this is an easy task most dogs can pick up quickly!
- Once a dog is off its stray hold, it will be individually evaluated for our adoption or rescue program, to include a dog to dog interaction. If a dog at Arlington Animal Services is in adoptions, no negative behaviors have been observed with people or other dogs. If you have a dog at home and are looking to adopt, we recommend bringing them with you for an official meet and greet at the shelter. *While some dogs may have the chance to meet Robin Hood, our shelter cat, in our clinic or see another cat while in our care, we don’t have a way to safely and comfortably test a dog around cats and are unable to provide that information for all dogs.
- All pet adoptions are just $5 as we remain at critical capacity in the shelter. At Arlington Animal Services we encourage responsible pet ownership and a part of that is a monetary commitment to the pet. With a low fee, we want to remain competitive to our surrounding shelters adoption fees and also allow a new family to spend money on their newly adopted pet and their needs too!
- All adoptable pets can be viewed online at https://arlingtontx.gov/adoptablepets. If a pet is pictured, or their adoption profile is still active online, that means the pet is still available for adoption. We also try our hardest to update their posts here as quickly as possible.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about Arlington Animal Services! Our team is so grateful for you and your support! Shelter pets are truly the best and hopefully these posts can bring some positive attention to them! 💙
