Lost pets currently at Arlington Animal Services

We've been sharing our stories about the high number of lost pets arriving to our shelter. Here are just a few of the lost faces who came in the last few days. We hope by sharing them here, an owner might see their picture and come back for them.

At Arlington Animal Services, each lost pet is held on a 3 or 7 day stray hold depending on their individual circumstances. For example, a dog who is wearing a collar or who has a microchip will be held for 7 days. And not just 7 days, but 7 days the shelter is open to give an owner the best chance possible at finding them.
On each picture you will see more information about the lost pet including the location they were found, and when their stray hold time is up.

***As a friendly reminder. These dogs are not available for adoption. We post their pictures with the hope of finding an owner who is looking for them. If the dog is not reclaimed by the end of it's stray hold period, it will be evaluated for our adoption or rescue placement program. Questions? Please do not hesitate to let us know. Email [email protected]

****Arlington Animal Services will be closed Monday, February 17 in observance of President's Day. Normal shelter hours and operations resume Tuesday, February 18.

Arlington community and friends, we NEED your help!!! A senior poodle was found this morning on N Collins Street. We are heartbroken to say that she was found in rough condition. We think she might have been hit by a car, or possibly just out in the horrible weather took a toll on her senior body. She just arrived and we have her warm, dry, and as comfortable as she can be. We will be evaluating her and continuously monitoring, but we are desperately looking for her owners. We need to see them as soon as possible! Does anyone recognize her? Did your poodle go missing? Or maybe a neighbors? Please help us share and find her family ASAP!!!

PUPDATE! We are so happy to share that Gracie, actually named Cinnamon was reunited with her EXTREMELY happy and grateful owner!! They were SO happy to see each other. Cinnamon is so very loved and one lucky dog!.
Thank you to everyone who shared her post!!

How can a video of a happy tail wagging dog get liked and loved over 6,000 times and shared over 3,500 times but yet, still no one has come to meet her. 💔
Gracie, the happy tail wagging dog is waiting so patiently. She wants a family to love. If the happy tail wagging video didn’t do the trick, maybe a kennel picture will? 🥹🤞🏼

The many faces of Vanilla 😆❤

This dog is FULL of personality and will be a joy to any family who chooses to adopt her!

Things to know about Vanilla-
She gets the zoomies.
She loves attention from her humans.
She LOVES belly rubs.
She likes to sleep on her back.
She knows sit & has a love for treats.
She is affectionate, loving and has done well when around other dogs in the shelter.

More about Vanilla-
This sweet senior girl is starting to show signs of what we call kennel neurosis. In simpler terms, she is starting to go kennel crazy. It is something that happens to dogs who are being housed in a kennel environment. If affects dogs differently and at different times. Some dogs not at all. You might notice Vanilla's paws in her pictures here. She has started licking them excessively. She has been seen by our shelter veterinary team on multiple occasions, and while we cannot rule out an allergy, from her exams, everything points to excessive licking due to kennel neurosis. We are providing her extra enrichment, toys and outside time to try and help this. What Vanilla really needs is to find a home. Vanilla has one more thing that is stacked against her... she is heartworm positive. 💔

Heartworm disease, a pit bull terrier, and a senior dog. We know this is a long shot and finding her a home will be difficult. We have trouble finding homes for perfectly adorable dogs who aren't heartworm positive.... however we want to remind the community, heartworm disease is a treatable and manageable disease. Our team members can get you information about heartworm disease as well as low cost treatment options in our area. Please share and help us find this awesome girl a forever home!

Yesterday, Arlington Animal Services had 24 intakes in one day. This is one of the highest intake days we've had so far in 2025. The thing that makes days like that difficult is on top of a high number of intakes, we only had 1 adoption and no lost pets were able to be returned to their owners. Here's how you can help!

View ALL lost pets currently in the shelter at www.arlingtontx.gov/lostpets. We ask that you take a moment to look at their pictures. Do you recognize any of these lost pets? All pets will hold their appropriate stray time. After the stray hold ends, they will be individually evaluated for our adoption or rescue partner program.

Our lost and found pets website is FULL of resources for owners who have lost pets OR citizens who find a lost pet and want to help. Please visit www.arlingtontx.gov/lostandfoundpets

****MOST stray pets stick close to home! Before bringing a lost pet to the shelter, can you post their picture in your neighborhood Facebook groups or on NextDoor? Please help us reunite lost pets before ever coming to the shelter.

*Did you know Arlington Animal Services has a stray pet foster program? If you find a stray and are able to foster, we will provide you with any supplies needed to care for the pet. By fostering a stray, this frees the kennel space for another homeless pet.

We wish we had unlimited kennel space for all of the pets in need, but that is simply not the case. As a reminder, we have a shelter full of amazing homeless pets waiting to be adopted. Our adoption fee is just $14. It includes pet vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm testing for dogs, FIV/FELV testing for cats, a microchip and more. You can view all available pets online at www.arlingtontx.gov/adoptablepets

Who's ready to meet our awesome pets of the week!?
Dog of the Week - Meet Pancake

This eight years old female Retriever mix is black and white in color and weighs 37 pounds. Pancake is the sweetest (older) girl you’ll ever meet! At 8 years "young", she has the perfect balance of playful energy and cuddly charm. She still likes to run and play around; then, shortly thereafter, will want to "plop" down on the couch with you or by your feet on the floor. Whether she’s lounging by your feet or snuggling on the couch, Pancake will be your most loyal and loving companion. She has been nothing but sweet to everyone she’s met, both human and furry friends alike. Now, she’s just waiting for the perfect person to love her forever. Due to her being considered a "senior" canine, VIP status has been assigned to her along with a reduced adoption fee. Meet Pancake in Dog Adoptions (DA) 18, her ID number is A57714055.

Dog of the Week - Meet Fluff

This fourteen months old male Anatolian Shepherd mix is tan, black and white in color and weighs 72 pounds. Fluff is a big boy with an even bigger personality! He’s full of energy and looking for someone who can keep up with his playful spirit and offer an outlet to expend his energy. Whether it’s going on long walks, running around outside, or just exploring new places, Fluff is always ready for an adventure. Because of his size, he’ll need plenty of space to roam and stretch his legs. If you’re an active person looking for a fun-loving companion, and can match his energy level, then Fluff could be the one for you. He’s ready to be your loyal best friend and share fun times together. Because Fluff has been in the shelter over two months, he has achieved VIP status. Meet Fluff in Dog Condo (DC) 3, his ID number is A57456936.

We told you we are dedicated to showing your more of what Arlington Animal Services is all about. Yes, we have a shelter full of homeless dogs and cats. Yes, we have animal control officers helping reunite lost pets... but there is so much more that happen in a day at Arlington Animal Services. That brings us to the story of Hawk!

Hawk came to the shelter late one day in January. A kind citizen had found him, injured, and after a quick medical evaluation it was determined he was probably hit by a car and had extensive injuries to one of his legs. However, despite the leg injury, Hawk was one lucky guy because that was it, and we all know there could have been a much worse fate when going up against a car. Our team members quickly worked to figure out what would be the best course of action for him. Hawk was able to secure what we call a "medical foster" and he was taken to Richter Animal Hospital for further care and treatment of his leg. The amazing team at Richter's took such great care of him. His veterinarian decided the best course of action would be to amputate the leg. This was almost one month ago and we are happy to report Hawk is thriving in Foster care! It's safe to say he is fully enjoying the spoiled cat life and the fact he only has 3 legs now doesn't bother him at all. Hawk still has a little time left in foster care before his adoption evaluation but we wanted to give you this update. Thanks to donations from our community to help injured pets like Hawk, his amazing medical foster and the team at Richter Animal Hospital, his days are filled with love and happiness!

If this story inspires you to donate to the care of future injured pets like Hawk, please click here: https://arlingtonwebstore.com/sheltermedical.aspx

If you are interested in joining our volunteer program and ultimately becoming a foster for shelter pets in need, please complete the online application at www.arlingtontx.gov/animalvolunteer
