For the first time ever, HSVMA will be awarding two $5,000 Compassionate Care Scholarships to veterinary technician students who demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare and represent a commitment to equitable access and inclusion within veterinary medicine via service or lived experience. Special consideration will be given students who identify as BIPOC and students who volunteer or work with underserved or marginalized communities. The application deadline is September 18, 2024. So please help spread the word to friends, colleagues, and students using the attached flyer!

I am proud to announce that I have completed my certification as a hospice and palliative care technician (CHPT). Thank you to for accepting me into the program and thank you to the instructors, mentors, doctors and technicians.
Being a hospice and palliative care technician for animals is more than just a profession—it's a calling, a profound commitment to being there for beloved companions when they need us the most. It’s about embracing the raw, beautiful, and sometimes heartbreaking reality of life’s final chapter, and ensuring that every animal we care for is surrounded by love, dignity, and comfort in their last days.
This role requires an extraordinary blend of medical expertise and emotional strength. The work is challenging, intense, and often comes with heartache. But it is also incredibly rewarding. Every time you ease the suffering of an animal, every time you help a family find peace in the midst of grief, you are making a difference.
