This handsome guy truly lives up to his name—Honey is as sweet as can be! His favorite things in the world are tennis balls and playing fetch, and his happy tail wags are guaranteed to brighten any day. 🎾

Honey is house-trained and has great manners, but we don’t know much else about his past. He was found all alone on the Roosevelt Bridge, and now he’s looking for a fresh start with a family who will love him as much as he’ll love them. If you’re searching for a loyal, playful companion who’s always ready for an adventure (or a cuddle), Honey might be your perfect match. 💛

For more than 11 months, Kahlua has been sitting in his kennel, patiently waiting for someone to give him the love he deserves. 💔 Visitors are rare for him, and no one has asked to make him a part of their family - it’s breaking our hearts.

This affectionate guy is a cuddle champion who loves toys and has the cutest habit of picking special leaves during walks to bring home as keepsakes (check out the photos below). He’s happiest when he’s the center of attention, so he’s looking for a home where he can be the only dog. A yard or private outdoor space would be amazing, but most of all, Kahlua just needs someone to give him a chance. He’s been waiting far too long for his happy ending. Could you be the one to change his story?

🚨 Important PSA – Please Read! 🚨 We’ve been alerted to a scam targeting pet owners in our community. Scammers are impersonating the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) and spoofing our phone number, making it appear as though their calls are coming directly from us.

Here’s how the scam works:
The scammers claim we have picked up your lost pet and request immediate payment over the phone for emergency surgery or other urgent care. They may even duplicate our main phone number so that if you hang up and call back, you’ll reach the real AWLA team.

Please remember:
➡️ AWLA will NEVER ask for payment over the phone for any reason.
➡️ If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and call us directly at 703-931-9241 to confirm the situation. This will ensure you’re speaking to our team, not a scammer.
➡️ Never share personal or financial information over the phone unless you’re certain of who you’re speaking to.

Additionally, a false page claiming to be AWLA was set up last weekend. While it has since been removed, please remember:
➡️ We will never message you first or ask if you want to adopt an animal via Messenger.

We are notifying Arlington County Police Department about this scam and will provide updates as needed. Thank you for your vigilance and for helping us protect our community from these fraudulent activities.

Every Happy Tail Begins with You! 🐾✨ www.awla.org/donate/2024social/ As we reflect on this year, we’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the happy endings you made possible. Here are just a few of the many lives you changed:

🐱 When Tora arrived as a stray, she was terrified and struggling in the shelter. We never gave up on her, and weeks later, something amazing happened—her owner, who had been searching for her for over a month, found her! The moment Tora saw him, her transformation was instant—purring, meowing, and leaping into his arms.

🐶 Bebop waited three long months for his perfect family. Despite being quite the charmer, it took time to find his match. But now, Bebop is living his best life with a new furry sibling (just LOOK at that photo), and his family says: "Bebop is a perfect angel baby! We love him."

🐾 Wookie's journey has been nothing short of incredible. After months of socialization to build his confidence, he found a family. Now, a year later, he’s a joyful, playful pup. His mom shared: "He loves keeping watch over our street from the back of the sofa, or using the guest bed as a trampoline for his epic zoomies. My heart swells when he follows me around and then falls asleep beside me after a walk. Waking up to his snoring immediately makes me smile, and usually laugh as well. He’s made this house a home again. He holds my heart in his hobbity little paws."

🐕 Lylah was found all alone near a local Costco. We immediately called the number on her tag, only to learn that her owner was out of town and hadn’t been informed that Lylah had gone missing while under the care of a petsitter. Understandably, her owner was frantic, but we reassured him that Lylah was safe with us. While Lylah waited for her owner to return, she struggled with the stress of being in the shelter, but our team went above and beyond to keep her calm and comfortable. Her owner came home early to be reunited with her, and their reunion was unforgettable—full of big hugs, wagging tails, and happy tears.

These are just a few of the lives you’ve touched this year. But there are still so many more pets who need your help to find their “happily ever after.” Right now, your gift can go twice as far to help pets in need. Thanks to a friend of the shelter, every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. That means your gift will have twice the impact—giving even more animals a second chance at love, comfort, and joy.

Your generosity changes lives. Thank you for being the reason behind every wagging tail, every joyful reunion, and every fresh start. 💕

One incredible rescue. One dedicated team. And a life forever changed. www.awla.org/donate/2024social/

Meet Autumn. Rescued from a South Korean dog meat farm, Autumn was just weeks into her new life with her forever family when she escaped and ran toward a busy highway. Alone, terrified, and lost—this was a dog who had already endured so much. Our Animal Control team immediately sprang into action. When Autumn slipped away and hid on the grounds of Ft. Myer, a military base with restricted access, the challenge grew even greater. But we didn’t give up. After many long hours, we finally rescued Autumn, safe and sound.

Anna Barrett, our Animal Control Programs Coordinator, shared, "It felt impossible at first. After a month with no sightings, I feared she might not have survived. But then, in February, we got the first sightings on base. It was incredible to see how she had survived—finding food and safe places to sleep. It was so rewarding to gain her trust."

Jennifer Toussaint, our Chief of Animal Control, added, "There are no words to describe how I felt when the trap door finally closed. Autumn’s fear and brilliance made her the hardest dog I’ve ever had to catch. Every animal feels like your own. We worried about her, and we never gave up."

Today, Autumn is thriving in her new home with her mom. Though still working through anxiety, she’s learning to trust again and is living a happy, healthy life. But Autumn’s story is just one example of the lifesaving work we do, thanks to your support. This holiday season, we ask for your help to continue our mission.
