A good coach plays multiple crucial roles that directly impact the growth and success of their riders. Some of these key roles include:

Mentor – Beyond just sport, a coach helps riders grow personally, sharing valuable advice and wisdom from their own experiences.
Motivator – They inspire and push riders to reach their full potential, fostering a mindset of positivity and determination to meet their goals.
Teacher – Coaches educate riders on techniques, strategies, and the rules of the sport, enhancing both their skills and understanding.
Strategist – Developing effective game plans, coaches leverage riders’ strengths while working on areas of improvement.
Communicator – Clear and effective communication is vital. A coach provides clear instructions, feedback, and support, ensuring riders fully understand their roles.
Disciplinarian – By enforcing rules and maintaining high standards, they promote discipline, respect, and structure within the team.
Supporter – Coaches offer emotional and moral support, helping riders handle pressure, setbacks, and success with resilience.
Evaluator – Regularly assessing riders’ performances, they set goals for improvement and help riders recognize areas for growth.
Role Model – Coaches lead by example, demonstrating sportsmanship, integrity, and a strong work ethic, shaping the attitudes and behavior of their riders.
Team Builder – By fostering camaraderie and teamwork, coaches create an environment where riders feel connected, valued, and supported.
Each of these roles plays an essential part in shaping athletes both in sport and in life.

However, one of the most critical traits of a great coach is the ability to handle the unexpected. Things rarely go as planned, and managing unforeseen challenges in a calm, efficient manner—especially around horses—is, in my view, the most vital quality a coach can possess

This picture has a thousand meanings to me and as I stare at it with memories flowing through my mind, I’m overwhelmed with the emotion that fills me up.

From the fear I had as a little girl afraid to fall off, to heartbreak of losing my heart horse. The lonely times when the only one who seemed to understand were my horses, to the struggles of how would I possibly be able to pay my electric bill let alone afford to ride. From painting my first saddle with hoof black, because I wanted a dressage saddle so badly, but could only have an all purpose saddle, to not knowing how I would ever learn to properly sit the trot.

It’s been a journey, a very long battle of struggles throughout the years. My story can’t really be summed up in a social media post but for those of you who can relate to wondering if it will ever happen to you, if all the hard work and the good deeds will come back around, if you ever feel like why is it so very difficult sometimes, or why can’t I just catch a break. Maybe you’re not even close to achieving what you hope and it feels impossible? You have a lot of nay sayers that said you didn’t have what it takes, or you were too old, or you don’t have enough money to play the game, or maybe you live in the wrong part of the country, maybe you have all the odds stacked against you. DON’T BELIEVE THEM.

It only takes one person to give you a chance. One scrappy thoroughbred who loves you more than his talent can bare. It only takes one person to see you working, grinding, and recognizing you have something. It only takes one girl with an incredible horse give you a chance. Just one moment of happenstance and the rest is history.

Believe…..work hard……enjoy and love your horses……be a student…….and dream. Then repeat. It really will happen, I promise!!

Words of wisdom: “A very important fact to remember:
Having the ability to find distances at 8 to 12 jumps on a horse that was selected and prepared (set up) by your trainer only makes you a good rider. Good riders today are a dime a dozen.
Having the ability to select an unbroken green young horse and develop it to carry a good rider around “A” rated horse shows makes you a professional horseman or horsewoman. These individuals are 1 in a million in todays world and are a dying breed all over the world.
Good riders need to stay humble and recognize that their success belongs to their trainers abilities.
Successful trainers that just sell well trained horses to their clients must also recognize and appreciate the professionals that make up the winning horses they sell to their clients because without the “True” professionals they would not have the ability to run a business.” - George D’Ambrosio

Congratulations to Ken Woestman for receiving the “Barn Dad” award! Ken is always up for anything we need whether hanging saddle racks or building cavalettis. Does he even know how to say no? I don’t think so!

Congratulations to Amanda L***y for receiving the “Sportsmanship” award! No matter how good or bad Amanda’s day is going, she is always concerned about supporting everyone else! We even had to beg (and failed) Amanda to stay for her flat class at the end of the show but she didn’t want us trainers getting home late! Amanda shows selflessness and compassion for every person she comes in contact with. We are lucky to have you apart of our family!!

Last but not least thank you to our 4 leaders .maahs who carry the weight of every client goal, hope and dream on their backs. Eternally grateful for this perfectly diverse, knowledgeable, and uplifting group of ladies we get to call our team!
