Our goal is to find them loving forever homes in USA. Many are then abandoned when they grow in size, require attention, want to play or if the family expects a baby. Due to the culture in Serbia, dogs are considered objects and not part of the family. Currently there are no Animal Welfare laws are in place in Serbia, so people don’t think twice abandoning them or abusing them. Forests are full of Goldens and other purebreds who eventually succumb to the elements, attacks by other feral dogs, or die from disease and or hunger. Although there are no kill shelters in Serbia, the conditions are so inhumane that they have become death camps. The majority of the dogs contract serious diseases within the first week they are in the shelter and most do not survive. The lucky ones who survive in the shelter are often dropped in the forests when the shelter become overcrowded. It is a vicious cycle that never ends. Even the streets are not safe as there are gypsies and drug addicts who will take these dogs and mistreat them. Some will even harm the dogs physically just so they can use the dog to beg for money. Smaller Goldens are also used as bait dogs for Kangals, “Anatolian Shepard’s”, Pit bulls and Dogo’s. Since there are currently no animal welfare laws, very little is done to help them and most do not survive. locates adoptable dogs, determines their potential for adoptability in USA, and screens them for all possible illness. As a strict policy, we DO NOT bring dogs who have had distemper. We make sure the dogs have full blood, urine and additional tests and they are quarantined for minimum of 15 days. The dogs are properly vetted for two months and afterwards reside in pet hotels, where they receive further assessment and some training before coming to the USA. After 15 days of quarantine, they receive additional required vaccinations for canine coronavirus, rabies, kennel cough and the DHLPP combination vaccine. Once medical assessment and care is complete, the dogs are spayed/neutered and micro chipped. At Legacy Rescue Inc. we work very closely with our team in Serbia and have direct communication with our vets and pet hotels. All paperwork and passport information is completed in accordance with USA requirements and we comply with all applicable USDA (US Department of Agriculture) regulations. We have adopted several dogs to wonderful families and provide Golden Retrievers to several reputable Golden Retriever Rescues who have been around for over 30 years. We do have high standards and follow a very strict process before bringing these dogs to USA. Our dogs are all well behaved and very loving. We want to make sure both the dogs and adopters are a good match so both you and your new addition to your family are not disappointed. Thank you again for considering and supporting Legacy Rescue, Inc. for your next family member.

We understand that some individuals may feel disappointed if they weren’t selected to adopt a dog, but we want to clarify that our decision-making process is based solely on the well-being of the dogs in our care. Our priority is ensuring that each dog is placed in a safe, loving, and appropriate home for their unique needs. While we may not always make decisions that everyone agrees with, we’re committed to saving lives and doing what’s best for the dogs.

It’s important to remember that we are not in rescue to be popular or to gain approval; we’re here to make responsible choices for the dogs’ futures. If a dog isn’t the right fit for a certain family, it doesn’t mean you aren’t a good pet parent. It simply means that another home might be a better match for that particular dog’s needs.

We kindly ask that if you’re passionate about helping, you focus on supporting the dogs and the rescue community rather than spreading false rumors. We’re all here for the same reason: to give these dogs the best chance at a safe, happy life. Let’s keep the focus on the dogs and not let personal opinions or egos get in the way of saving lives.

Hi, I’m the sweetest golden retriever girl, and I absolutely adore dogs, cats, and all humans! I’m about 7 years old, and I love nothing more than cuddling with my family by the fire and playing with my toys. This is the first time I’ve ever had toys, and let me tell you—they’re pretty awesome!

I’m a decent walker, though I do have my favorite directions (I’m a bit stubborn at times😜), but my foster mom says I’m improving every day. I’m not a fan of rain, so I make quick work of my business outside and head right back into the warm house for belly rubs. And yes, I’m fully potty trained now!

Could you be the lucky one to give me my forever home this Christmas? If you’re interested, please reach out to Legacy Rescue at 347-326-3283 or apply at legacyrescue.org/adoption.

Four years ago, we discovered four sisters abandoned in the middle of a forest. Without hesitation, we took them in. Last year. Sophia went to UK. Rose flew in from Serbia a year ago and was blessed to find a wonderful family. Then, a year later, we were able to bring Dorothy home—though she was shy and wary at first. But then, a miracle occurred: Rose’s family, not wanting the sisters to be separated, opened their hearts and adopted Dorothy as well. The last sister Blanche will come in the new year and ready has a family and a fur sister waiting. In a world that often feels dark and uncertain, this Christmas reminds us that miracles do still happen.

May all Christmas wishes come true and remember most important is to be blessed by family, friends and furbabies.

Meet Gracie, the sweet and lovable 6/7-year-old Golden Retriever looking for her forever home! Gracie is the perfect companion with a laid-back, “chill” personality. Most days, you’ll find her snoozing (and sometimes softly snoring) behind her foster mom while she works from home. Gracie quickly bonds with her people and will happily follow you around, eager for pets and affection. She thrives on attention, and the more love she gets, the better!

While Gracie is a bit stubborn on the leash—occasionally sitting down in protest if she’s not headed in her preferred direction—she’s very trainable and improving each day. She is great with cats, dogs, and children, usually just ignoring them or letting them sniff her. Despite her calm nature, she has yet to bark, so she would do best in a quieter home.

Gracie would absolutely thrive in a home where someone is home most of the time, especially with a work-from-home situation, as she loves being close to her people. She’s also making great progress on housebreaking, with no accidents in over three weeks—she’s a fast learner!

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion to share your day with, Gracie could be your perfect match! Please apply on https://legacyrescue.org/adoption/ if interested in Gracie ❤️

Our Story

Legacy Rescue INC. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit dog rescue that has been formed to save abandoned golden retrievers from all over the World. While the majority of abandoned dogs are Golden Retrievers, we also find Golden mixes, Cocker Spaniels, Airedale Terriers, Poodles, Labradors and many other purebreds in the streets, forests and shelters of Turkey, Serbia, China and many other countries including USA. Our goal is to find them loving forever homes in USA. In the last 10 years, it has become fashionable in many of these countries to buy purebred puppies from breeders and pet shops. Many are then abandoned when they grow in size, require attention, want to play or if the family expects a baby.
