I wanted to share this hoof I trimmed yesterday. Hind hoof on a thoroughbred mare that is just a pasture pet. She belongs to a client's neighbor who is elderly, so they bring her over for hoof trims. No idea of her diet, she is on pasture. Was impressed how clean the sole is, and the concavity of the foot. People say TBs can't have good feet, well here is one!

2nd trim on mare I pulled shoes on 4 weeks ago. Still has a ways to go, been sore and in boots a lot.

Motley got his first hoof trim today! Just a month old, he is a HUGE C**t! Did so good, fussed a bit for the first front foot, better with his hinds, seemed to get the hang of it all for the other front hoof. What a good kid!!

Little update on Boo, foundered then diagnosed with EPM last year. Her feet still look horrible, but she is walking great with her glue on easyshoes. Today we put on a little cast over them to try to get a little more time before they come off.
She has a much better hoof growing down, be nice when those toes are grown down and back to normal shape. Vet said she will never be without some sort of protection, am hoping we can ditch the shoes this year.
Not a pretty job still, but main goal is she is comfortable walking.

Update on Boo, TB mare got EPM and laminitis as a result. Today I pulled her remaining easyshoe off, she lost the other just a couple days ago. She is comfortable bare today and moving pretty good! Picture with shoes are 6 weeks ago, today's barefoot.
Glue job isn't pretty, main goal was getting her comfortable. Hoof has grown down a bit since the start. Can't wait for pictures in 6 months!

Today did a reset of easyshoes on a TB mare with laminitis as a result of EPM. I managed to get them off without wrecking them, and cleaned up enough to use again. Trimmed today after xrays, then a little more after 2nd xrays. Little magic cushion packing in the frogs, and glued on shoes. She walked off much better with the new set. Not the prettiest job, I didn't worry about looks for now. You can see the deep ditch in the hoof where the start of this happened.

Update on Lacey. She had a little setback last couple weeks, apparently got herself tangled in the fence and buggered up her hind legs a little. Think maybe compensating for sore hind leg put a bit of stress on this front, she was a bit sore. Other than that she's been doing great. Trim yesterday and fit her with Easyboot Epic boots with thick pads in them, the RX were a little too small and causing rubs on her heels.

Update on Lacey. Went for 3rd trim yesterday. Owner said she was really good up to about 4 days before our trim which was scheduled at 3 weeks from the last. She definitely had growth to cut back. Hopefully she will continue to improve as she has been!

Update on Lacey, 2nd trim today at 3 weeks. Forgot to take before pictures, so this is after trim today. She is still lame, but a lot less than before the first. Working on getting that toe back and heels back under her. She had been on bute for a few days, today she had been off for 2 days. She stood a lot better on the worst foot to trim the other one. That big ugly toe crack looks a little better, it all seems to be growing down nicely. Can't wait to see the comparison in another few months. Still in the RX boots, will be used as needed to keep her moving well. Having clients start her on CA Trace supplement today.

Thursday I went out to look at a horse that was scheduled to be put down that afternoon. She foundered a year and a half ago, farriers and vets haven't been able to fix her lameness in one foot. Got the vet out while I was there for new xrays, her hoof had not changed. I think I can help her get back to reasonable soundness, so we are giving her another chance. Trim today and put in RX boots, she walked out a lot better! Will work on growing a new hoof better connected, she has a pretty big lamellar wedge.
Pictures before and after.

Happy newer client today... she got a new horse that was barefoot, I started with trimming just that one, the other 2 had shoes. 2nd time out she had me pull the shoes on the other 2. The mare had all 4 shoes, she is the daughter's barrel horse. I told her about results other people have had with running barefoot horses, she said today it was true with their horse as well! They took the mare to a race, her daughter said the mare felt different, said her balance felt better and she was turning tighter to the barrels. Pretty incredible to have that change already, I have only trimmed this mare twice so far! I love hearing these stories and people really feeling change for the better in their horses.

Gem, 6 year old QH mare. Body worker sees a slight club foot forming. Collateral groove depth matches on both fronts. She said something about digital cushions, client couldn't remember what about those. Seem healthy to me. Frogs healthy. Said point of frog too close to white line. These pictures today are 3 weeks after last trim. Weird thing is she has flat spots on front running down from coronet to ground.

Client got her horse's hind fetlock injected. Vet recommended hind shoes for awhile. And vet trimmed the front feet. I don't understand where the shoes will help the fetlock joint.... Seems always anything wrong with a horse vets will recommend shoes.
