Meet Mac! This 16.2hh 2014 KY bred war horse ran his last race January ‘24! He retired sound with clean legs and over 400k in earnings! Mac has seen it all and doesn’t blink an eye at much. We’ve gotten pretty good at quickly identifying a young horses potential and preferred career over the years.

Captain, a 4yr 16hh OTTB was a special one that after his first on farm ride I said “I’d foxhunt this one tomorrow!” He was all business and no silliness under saddle with a forward thinking, brave, and forgiving temperament.

For his first hunt he rode with the Hilltoppers, whips, and even off on his own with a loop in the reins. He didn’t think twice about marching right into the brush, was careful where he put his feet when hounds were near, and calmly trotted right up to his first coop like a seasoned hunter. Even his few green moments he recovered from quickly and was ready for the next thing.

We have the same basic program for our OTTBS (not the same time frame. They are all individuals). A lot of work goes into developing them at home and making sure their first outing is a positive one. Some just make it more enjoyable than others 😜

Yesterday’s joint meet with Middleburg and Warrenton hunt clubs was complete with magical snow flurries and an amazing breakfast. So nice to see such a nice group braving the frigid temperatures!

Justice was a little tired since he had to go twice this week but did his job for me anyway 🧡 He’s really turning into a very versatile field hunt, able to wear many different hats 😊

Seriously the best young horse 🧡 he tolerated the big group of horses, babysitting a pony, standing at the stirrup cup on the Salamander Resort lawn, huge crowds, flashing police lights, loud music and more with only minor fidgeting at the end and all without any cocktails! 🧡🧡🧡 PC Flintlock Photos and Middleburg Photo.

Our Story

The name Llew Oren is Welsh for the “color orange”. We choose the name for our foundation horses, two matching chestnut mares both named Ginger. In addition everything on the farm ended up orange by coincidence! The two barn cats, the equipment, and for a bit so many chestnut horses.

Llew Oren Farm & Stables is based out of Scott Abeel’s Rock Ridge farm in The Plains Virginia. The 90 acre farm consists of a 20 stall barn, huge outdoor arena, board fenced paddocks,and is centrally located between Routes 50 and 66.

The partnership is between Shannon Venezia (SMV Equestrian) and Ross Salter. Ross Salter also offers farrier, bush-hogging, and hay sales services.

Our services include SALES of sport horses both stateside and in the UK, TRAINING, and limited BOARDING spaces. We welcome all disciplines but focus on foxhunters.
