Dear Friends,
Occasionally, a soul crosses your path and touches your heart in a way you never expected. For me, that soul is a sweet 7-year-old Beagle named Precious.
Precious came into our care in April after Stamford Animal Control rescued her from a hoarding situation. She and her two brothers (Ben and Mikey) had lived their entire lives inside, never even touching grass.
Fostering her wasn’t planned. My husband and I already have two dogs and two small children, and we both work full-time. But Precious needed a soft place to land, and I couldn’t say no. She is calm, affectionate, and gets along beautifully with people and other dogs.
Shortly after coming home, I noticed Precious was leaking urine in her sleep. We started her on Proin, a common medication used for urinary issues, hoping it was something simple. But additional testing revealed protein in her urine, an early sign of kidney trouble.
We acted quickly, running a full blood panel and taking her to Guardian Veterinary Specialists. There, an internist diagnosed Precious with a very mild form of chronic kidney disease, which can be managed. Unfortunately, they also found something more concerning: a growth on her spleen.
To give her the best chance at a healthy life, Precious needs a splenectomy (spleen removal surgery) so the mass can be biopsied. The rest of her health looks great, and her doctors are optimistic. If the mass is benign, she will go on to live many happy years.
Now, I’m turning to you, our community, for help.
Please consider donating toward Precious’s surgery and recovery. Every dollar truly makes a difference. With your support, we can give this loving, gentle girl the life she deserves.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in second chances and standing with animals like Precious when they need it most. I promise to keep you updated with her journey and am hopeful with time she will be ready to find her furever family.
With gratitude,
Christine Amato
