Having a reactive dog is just the beginning, not the end. It's a continuous journey of learning, adaptation, and building a deeper bond. The challenges become opportunities for growth, patience, and a stronger connection between you and your dog. It's not the conclusion but the start of an ongoing adventure filled with shared experiences and the joy of overcoming challenges together.

SMART x 50

STEP 1 - GET TREATS READY

*Grab 50 treats and place them in your Treat pouch or bowl in a central location of your home. Of course, keep them out of your dog's reach.

Picking your treats: Because you will be rewarding your dog 50 times, it is really important that your treats are low-calorie and high-value. Your dog has to actually want the treats you are offering them.
Awesome treat options are my go-to favorite Redbarn Roll (All For The Pet - in Severna Park sells them), boiled fresh meats, freeze-dried meats, and liver)

STEP 2 - SEE POSITIVE BEHAVIORS

*Actively look for instances when your dog does something that you want them to do without asking.

Here are some examples:
Laying down next to you while you watch TV
Not barking when someone passes the window
Sitting down instead of jumping
Going to their crate or bed on their own

Those are just ideas... the options are endless; observe for anything your dog could possibly do that you like. Take an hour and Just watch your dog.
- Look for the moments when they aren't doing something annoying.
- Look for your dog to perform a behavior organically that you want to see more of.

STEP 3 - MARK AND REWARD

*When you see your dog doing one of those positive behaviors, mark it with “Yes” and reward it.

Remember, “Yes” is a snapshot picture of the behavior; they know the reward/treat is for that moment. Keep your energy neutral. We don't want to add excitement to these behaviors. The goal is to form calm habits within our homes. Now that you know what you're looking for, stretch those 50 treats throughout the day.

*Give a treat.

Think of this as their paycheck for the day. How would you feel if your boss randomly gave you a bonus for checking your e-mails? You would check those e-mails a lot more, am I right?

STEP 4 - REPEAT 50x EACH DAY

Repeat steps two and three 50 times each day.
YUP, 50 times!
Hence, SMART x 50 😃

WHY YOU'LL LOVE SMART x 50
The amazing thing about this method is that it forces you to find the good things your dog is doing.

Too often, we get hung up on all the "bad behaviors," naughtiness, etc., and we forget to reward the positive behaviors.
The bottom line is... What gets rewarded gets repeated.

If you want your dog to lay calmly by your side, you'd better reward that when they do!!

Try this out, and let me know your results in the comments below. post some pics and videos of those good pups as well ⤵️

Hey there! With the holidays around the corner, lots of families are gearing up to welcome a cute little puppy into their homes. And let me tell you, it's super important to make sure these furballs get the education they need to become happy, healthy, and well-behaved companions.

The holiday season can be a perfect time to bring home a puppy, especially with some time off and plenty of chances for socialization. But, let's be real, it can also get pretty hectic with all the festivities and crazy schedules, right?

Now, those first few days and weeks after your new puppy arrives are seriously crucial. If you or someone you know is getting a puppy soon, take a moment to think about how you're going to give your little buddy the attention, training, and socialization they need to start building the right habits from the get-go. Let's make this holiday season extra special for both you and your new furry friend!🎄
