Why your bell boots need to fit properly and cover the shoe. This happened while on the trail and had the rubber not been there, the shoe wouldā€™ve said bye bye šŸ‘‹ nothing special happened, other than Eveeā€™s hind feet, over reaching and snagging the boot.

This is exactly why I keep the bell boots on, especially when working on new things

What Your Trainer Wishes You Knew About Learning From Everyone!

Part of what makes this horse business exciting is the fact that thereā€™s always something new to learn. And one of the best ways to learn is to work with an accomplished trainer who fits your style and goals. After getting themselves established as a customer, many people will continue to seek out information from the internet, books, and other trainers. There is nothing wrong with doing that, so if thatā€™s you, keep it up! But, as youā€™ve probably noticed, information, tips, and entire training philosophies can sometimes conflict, leaving you unsure what to do or who to believe. Here are some things to consider if you want to minimize confusion while you learn. These tips will also help your long-term trainer feel less like pulling their hair out when talking to you. šŸ˜‰

Preface: When you enter into a customer relationship with a trainer, you are essentially saying you would like to be a part of and follow their training program. If you donā€™t trust the trainerā€™s judgment and expertise enough to do that comfortably, you need to find a new trainer, for both of your sakes. If you do trust your trainer, then read on!

1. Let your trainer know about any lessons, clinics, or seminars youā€™re thinking of attending with a different trainer. Your trainer may have justified concerns if he thinks this could cause a setback in your progress or some other issue. And if your trainer is fine with you going, have a ā€œdebriefā€ session with her sometime afterward to go over what you learned. There may be some things that the new trainer didnā€™t catch in one day with you, possibly some confusing terminology, and other things that your long-term trainer would prefer you do for reasons only someone who really knows you and your horse would have.

2. Keep in mind that every trainer has a different program, with different tastes in equipment, drills, etc. If your long-term trainer has you riding in a certain bit and martingale combo, and the new trainer says to get rid of it, run this by your long term trainer before just assuming your long-term trainer doesnā€™t know what heā€™s talking about. If heā€™s any good, he has his reasons. And they just might make sense.

3. Minimize trainer hopping. Try to stick with one primary trainer for as long as possible- someone with a great reputation who has gotten real results. This is because good horse training requires a program, a step-by-step system that builds on itself. If you change things in the program by swapping them out for outside trainersā€™ steps, it might not make sense in the context of that particular program.

4. Every (good) trainer has an order of operations. Your long-term trainer might not be working on something right now with you that another trainer said was important to work on. Thatā€™s ok! Bring it up to your long-term trainer. Itā€™s highly likely that sheā€™s prioritizing your skill development in a very specific way, and youā€™ll get to that skill later on.

5. Recognize that all the books and Google search skills in the world canā€™t replace years of dedicated experience and educated perspective. Value your trainer as the expert he or she is.

Howdy Hey friends,

Another weekend has made it here and it just keeps getting closer to summer! This is the perfect time of year to prep for shows and to get ready for the season for both horse and rider. Along with conditioning and training for my horses, I continue my growth as well both at the barn and away from it. As a professional I believe that you never stop having the ability to learn and better yourself for whatā€™s next. With knowledge comes power. Without learning, we become stagnant. Today as I listened to Brene Brownā€™s new book, I was reminded of a great quote and a wonderful mindset.

I chose this picture to go with the quote Iā€™m about to share since Theo was named after president Theodore Roosevelt. Theo was one of the horses who helped spark my passion of helping others to have the same love and connection as I did to this sport.
We often are quick to judge others and be critical of the situations we arenā€™t involved in. Theodore Roosevelt says it best in his speech of 1910

ā˜€ļø ā€œIt is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.ā€ ā˜€ļø

Strive to be the best horseman you can be as you continue on your journey but most of all, work hard for you and always try to make your personal best, better.

The good times just keep on getting better. Flying Lyons is happy to announce a GROUP RIDE time now that the days are getting longer and its hinting towards summer. These are going to start in MAY. These classes will consist of obstacles, patterns and transition work while focusing on horsemanship. To make the most out of this class , have your horse ready and warmed up before hand.

Looking for private lessons? Buy a package of 4 to get started. Work on goals specifically tailored to your riding journey. These are best for riders who are looking to better their riding ability and gain confidence in their ride. Make the most out of your lesson by showing up warmed up and ready to go by the start of the lesson time.
* LESSONS MUST BE PAID FOR AT TIME OF SCHEDULING TO LOCK IN SPOT *

Can my light colored horse people relate?! Mud season is upon us and itā€™s almost time for summer. This is my favorite time of year to really lock down on transition and muscle training for the horses in my program. Soon itā€™ll be long days and weekends filled with horse shows

Howdy Hey friends! Happy Tuesday.

What a great week we had last week showing down with the Cowboy Dressage Association. It was our first time attending and also the first schooling show of the season. This event was fun and filled with great people. We showed up Wednesday evening to get horses settled before the show on Thursday. We moved in right before Denver had a fun little ā„ļø snow storm that continued on to Friday.
A little blizzard didnā€™t stop many from coming and it was a great turnout. Thatā€™s just horse people for you! Really looking forward to our next one

šŸŒŸ Thursday morning started bright and early with Karen and Kazzy knocking it out of the park by taking šŸ„‡ FIRST in their partnership in hand class.

šŸŒŸ Phoenix was the best emotional support horse and took a second in her walk/jog class

šŸŒŸ Blu got a high point in the Open challenge court
