Protect your heart from being stolen! ❣️

Today marks Pet Theft Awareness Day, established in 1988 to shed light on the issue of pet theft and provide tips on how to safeguard your furry family members. Each year, millions of pets are snatched in the United States for various reasons such as profit, medical research, and dog fighting. Interestingly, pet theft is more prevalent on Valentine's Day than any other day.

To ensure the safety of your beloved pets, consider the following precautions:
- Train your pet: Well-trained pets are less likely to wander off or be targeted for theft.
- Neuter your pet: Neutered pets are less desirable for breeding purposes, reducing the risk of theft.
- Secure your pet: Utilize a fenced yard, a portable travel crate, or alarms to protect your pet from potential thieves.
- Keep your pet leashed: Always leash your pet when out and about to prevent them from straying.
- Microchip your pet: Microchipping can serve as a valuable tool in preventing theft and reuniting you with your pet in case they are stolen.

By taking these proactive measures, you can significantly reduce the chances of your pet falling victim to theft. Remember, safeguarding your pet is an essential part of being a responsible pet owner.

Valentine's Day is a day filled with delicious treats, candies, and beautiful flowers. However, it's important to remember that these items can actually be dangerous for our furry friends. Here are some essential safety tips to keep in mind during this love-filled holiday.

First off, let's talk about chocolate. Did you know that chocolate contains caffeine and theobromine, both of which are toxic to dogs, cats, and birds? The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is. Keep an eye out for symptoms of chocolate poisoning such as vomiting, increased thirst, diarrhea, and restlessness.

Next up, we have xylitol. This sweetener, found in many candies and gum, is extremely toxic to dogs. Signs of xylitol poisoning can develop within 15 minutes and may include vomiting, weakness, lack of coordination, tremors, seizures, and even coma.

When it comes to plants, lilies are a big no-no for cats as they can cause kidney failure. Make sure to remove any lilies from your arrangements. On the other hand, roses are safe for dogs, cats, and birds. If you receive a plant as a gift, be sure to check if it's pet-friendly.

Even the crinkly cellophane that wraps plants and flowers can be a hazard for your pets. The sound may be tempting for them to play with, but if ingested, it can cause serious issues. Remember to dispose of wrapping and ribbon properly.

If you suspect that your pet has ingested something toxic, don't hesitate to contact us immediately. We're here to ensure that you and your furry family members have a safe and happy Valentine's Day!
