Do Golden Retrievers need their teeth brushed?

In support of National Pet Dental Health Month we wanted to bring awareness about the importance of proactive oral care for the prevention and treatment of dental disease in your pets.

Did you know that dental issues that go unchecked can often lead to periodontal disease in pets by age 3—which in turn, can lead to more severe health issues affecting their kidneys, liver, and heart? In fact, over 75% of all dogs and cats have varying degrees of dental disease and are currently in need of some level of oral care.

Besides daily brushing at home, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends evaluations at least once a year to treat any dental disease issues or prevent chronic dental disease from developing in the first place. Every pet over the age of 18 months should start getting annual cleanings, especially small/toy breeds. If this is already happening, keep up the good work!

Goldens in Golden enjoyed another year of remarkable success! The spectacle of hundreds of Goldens gathering in one place is breathtaking! Pupdate:
Sharing an update on Winnie (formerly Lulu, adopted 9/22). She is such a sweet girl and loves her brother. This week she graduated her “Good Canine Citizen” course from Terroux! We love her so much and are so happy she’s a part of the family

Pupdate: We adopted Luka last spring as part of Chevy’s liter. He has been a beautiful blessing in our lives. He came in at a time when we were grieving the unexpected loss of our prior pup and had brought us so much light and joy!
We will also be at Golden’s in Golden and would love to meet up with any of his siblings!

Pupdate: We’re Erica and Adam Frank! This fall, we adopted the last puppy from the group of ten Golden Saints rescued, and we named her Torrey. She’s six months old today, and honestly, she’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to us. Torrey is such a big lover—she absolutely adores playing fetch, running on the trails, and cuddling with us on the couch. She’s incredibly friendly with every person and animal she meets, and she brings a smile to everyone she lets pet her. We’ll be at Goldens in Golden next week and would love to connect with her brothers and sisters if they’re able to make it!
