We lost a good friend on Friday morning - Betty Strohmeier, one of the best Corgi Breeders, latterly had Tibby’s, Master Groomer, Handler of Flat-Coats, Corgi’s, Tibetan Spaniels and others.
Condolences to her Family. Arrangements will follow in due course.

The St. Louis Park Police Department in St. Louis Park, MN has received their new K-9, Maverick! Maverick and handler, Officer McNeely finished training this summer where Maverick was certified in explosives detection. With the help of the United States Police Canine Association, the department was awarded an AKC Reunite Adopt a K-9 Cop grant in October 2022 which started their first K-9 program!

Our Breed Spotlight program this month will feature Manchester Terriers, and this work by Ignazio Spiridoni shows an example of this formidable breed alongside two mastiffs.

On Sunday, April 23rd 12-2pm join us in our Library space to to meet and greet with 5 of these amazing dogs. The breed has two varieties: standard and toy and you will get to compare them while talking to the owners about their care. This event is free for Members and included with General Admission.

Isla just turned a year old. She has been very, very excited by people. On Tuesday we made a break-through. She sat to be petted by 6 people (this is HUGE for her) and was examined by 2 people.
This morning Isla sat to be petted by Linda Terroux (her big pal!). She also sat to be petted by Sally Terroux and examined by Sally twice (vast improvement). She was of course excited but was under control and on a loose leash.
Isla is now totally out of season, thank goodness - her first season was horrendous. Her behavior was horrendous (which can be the way with their first season) - I can only speak on Flat-Coats having had them for 30 years. I am hoping that this is the hardest one! Her coat has changed and is looking good. In a Flat-Coat their coat changes at around 8-9 months old, again at around 2 years old, then again at 4 years old.

Cooper, a 13 year old Golden Retriever. When Cooper originally came into training – for a Golden, he was a pretty tough dog – Cooper turned out to be one exceptional dog!
His Family dotted on him - Cooper showed unwavering loyalty. He loved his walks, was a ball crazy retriever and he never met a stranger!
Through the years, Cooper boarded with me, such an easy dog to be around. He was charming, funny had a smile that made you laugh – he brightened your day!
Cooper, a friend, companion and Family member – an exceptional dog!

The Washington County Sheriff's Office in Hagerstown, MD received their new K-9, Rex! Rex and handler, Deputy Mario Angelini attended their entry level K-9 training in Ohio back in September. There Rex was trained in narcotics detection and tracking. Since certifying in October 2022, Deptuy Angelini and Rex have had numerous deployments from exterior vehicle sniffs to tracking criminals. One of these instances involved Rex sniffing for narcotics which resulted in a positive alert. This directly lead to the seizure of a large amount of fentanyl, crack co***ne, and powder co***ne. The Sheriff’s Office is grateful for Rex and is certain he will continue to serve their community well! They were awarded an AKC Adopt a K-9 Cop grant in August of 2022 with the help of the United States Police Canine Association.

My poor confused girl..........is convinced the Flat-Coat upstairs comes down to visit her, he's always there when she checks, she just can't figure out how to get into that room. Oh, Isla! Now don't you be laughing at my dog!😂🤣😂

This is Isla's 5th week of Training. She did a pretty nice down-stay with other dogs practicing Utility work! Well done Isla, that's my lass!

PSA on what you have to do after receivjng the Covid-19 vaccines!

Ruby, the Portugues Water Dog, is in my Novice Class. I was asked to handle her in Obedience. Since I have just spent 10 days in San Diego, we missed the two matches prior to the Show. I have only worked with her 3 half hour sessions this week (and she was ready). Ruby has never been to a dog show before - she is, however, a pretty confident dog and exceeds in Nosework. Ruby was entered yesterday in Novice B. There were 17 entries, 4 qualified (which was terrible) and Ruby took 2nd Place. Typically, I'm looking for 1st place but given the circumstances over the last two weeks, we'll take it. Nice Job Ruby!!!!! Pickwick's Film Noir CGC - now has her 1st leg towards her "CD" - Companion Dog Title!

Glen and I heading in after chores this morning! He's quite happy with what he did.....whatever that was!

Glen is in love! We did some inboard training with this German Shepherd. Glen is around many dogs, and over the years, dogs come and go through the house........but this one he noticed! Her name is Eva, she will be 1 tomorrow and is Czechoslovakian bred. We just finished another work appointment.......and boy........were they happy to see each other! Glen is now taking a nap......no doubt dreaming of Eva!

I am saddened by the news of the loss of Cody. Cody, such a talented dog! Both he and Paula worked great as a team and he enjoyed his work. Cody and Randy worked well together too, and, as smart as Cody was, he worked differently for each handler. I was always flattered when around Cody, he would do whatever he could to get to me to say “hello” to his friend! - (this sometimes meant breaking an exercise!). Randy & Paula, there is nothing I can say to ease the pain. Here’s to the treasured memories! Here’s to his accomplishments! Here’s to a great dog! Another busy day at PDT!

Week before Graduation for Beginner Obedience. 1 on the sideline taking an important call.

Dogs and Handlers had a fun time last night with the introduction of Agility. Autumn is a very anxious lab......she had a blast. Handlers, very impressed with your dogs. Team Deb & Ruby, Team Bob & Kahlan, Team Jen & Autumn

Weave Poles, always entering with their left shoulder and only in one direction when starting. Manipulating the dog in and out....way to go!

Teaching the Hurdle Bar with a command "over" (unless you work in the field as "over" would mean something else to the dog). Both dog and handler jump over the Hurdle together using the command "over", then once the dog understands, the handler can quickly move at the side of the bar while the dog jumps with the command. The dogs did great for their first time!

Teaching our dog to go over the broad jump starts with handler and dog jumping over together, giving the command "jump" as they go over. Once you have demonstrated to the dog what you want, the handler can walk beside the jump and the dog will go jump over on command. Nice Job!

Walking over a ladder teaches a dog where their feet are. Kahlan is experienced in this, Autumn and Ruby are just beginners and they mastered it after a couple of attempts. Well Done dogs & handlers!

Advanced Class last night. We started off with some Obedience and finished off with a bit Agility. BoJo (the Golden), Ruby (PWD), Autumn (Chocolate Lab), Kahlan (FCR).
