Catsbury Park A 501(c)3 non-profit rescue and New Jerseys first cat cafe!
(280)

We are a New Jersey 501(c) non-profit corporation with the goal of helping as many kittens and cats find loving homes through various channels. As many of you who followed us on social media might know, we started fostering out of our home in the summer of 2016 and were able to place 37 kittens with forever homes within our first 2 months. We also want to create a space where the public can learn

about cats, interact with them, and potentially take them home. We still hope to continue fostering kittens but Catsbury Park Tea House & Cat Lounge itself will focus on adult cats who, while available for adoption, are residents of the cafe and interact with customers. We also feel that Asbury Park, our favorite place, needs a tea lounge and have focused on providing high-end tea service to provide the best experience for those who come to spend time with our cats!

I always say: One kitten is half a kitten. Two kittens are a whole!

Often, first-time adopters feel overwhelmed by the idea of bringing home a pair, and believe it will be easier to adopt a solo kitten…only to realize later that they wish they’d adopted a duo! As someone who reads a lot of adoption applications, trust me: a lot of solo-kitten adopters end up wanting a second kitten after all.

Paired adoptions make me happy, but I do lots of solo kitten adoptions too, as long as the adopter has another young cat in the home to be the kitten’s friend. Our kittens adjust beautifully to homes with young, playful cats! Interestingly enough, we didn’t have any paired adoption applicants for my current crew of 4…but we had several applications from people who had recently adopted a solo kitten and regretted not adopting a second!

One adopter told me that she’d adopted a kitten just days earlier, then went to the vet and was told “you need to get a second kitten,” so she applied with Orphan Kitten Club for a little friend. (LOVE that advice—thank you, vet!)

I share this to say that if you’re a first-time adopter considering a solo kitten, consider adopting a pair. I promise I’m not just trying to upsell you on kittens! Two kittens will keep each other entertained, learn new skills from one another, take out their energy on one another, and enrich each others’ lives. And when you adopt a pair of young friends or littermates, they’ll be bonded immediately!

If you’ve recently adopted a solo kitten and have no other cats at home, it’s not too late to get them a little buddy to bond with for life. Every time an adopter applies to pair one of our kittens with their new kitten, I tell them: you are making a very smart decision!

Read my article at KittenLady.org/twokittens to learn why experts agree: two kittens are better than one. 🐱🐱

Will & Fig !

These two cuties came to us from a long time Catsbury supporter Melanie. They were alone, without their Momma, and definitely needed some TLC (and a bath) when they arrived.

They went into foster with our staff member, and foster mom Kayla who showered them with love and attention, getting them all ready to find their forever home. Kayla did a fantastic job with these two and ensured they would be A+ snugglers and purr machines!

Our friends at had some space open in their adoption suite so we sent the kiddos over to get some exposure. Robin was a pre-approved adopter and was at OVH for a wellness visit for her dog Frankie and she spotted Will and Fig. Frankie fell in love with the kittens, and so did Robin — so she knew those were the cats she wanted to add to her family.

Melanie, we thank you for rescuing these two!

Robin, thank you for choosing to adopt! These kids have a long, loving life ahead of them thanks to you - and we wish you all the best!

MEET DUKE AND JESTER!

This pair of Tuxedo babes came to us over a year ago as kittens. They arrived to us with their siblings Countess, Baroness, and Lady - and their Mom Princess Delaware. One by one, their siblings and mom got adopted but Duke and Jester remained. These two have been with us long enough to graduate from the kitten room into the main lounge with the adult cats. Of course, we love them and they will be with us as long as it takes but we were all pretty bummed out when we realized how long they’d actually been looked over, just because they’re shy.

Jester is more shy than his sister Duke…but they are both SO playful, and love taking naps in the sun. Duke seems to help boost Jester’s confidence, so while they don’t seem to be totally bonded — it would be really wonderful if they could find their forever home together. Out of their entire litter and their mom, these two only had each other to rely on after everyone else got adopted. So it makes sense they find comfort in one another. Our volunteer Gill graciously sponsored their adoption fee in hopes that it could help these kids finally get adopted!

They would do best in a home that understands they might take a little more time to come around, but we know they have the potential to make someone very, very happy! Play time with them is important as well, because they LOVE to play with the wand toys, and of course everyone’s favorite — the springs!

So you’re ready to meet these two royal babes?! You can book a visit to the lounge right on our website (link in bio). You can also find our adoption application on our website as well.

459 days is way too long for these kids to be waiting. Your shares and help with our posts has resulted in multiple adoptions these last few weeks….so please help us share this post and let’s see if we can find Duke and Jester their forever person!!

📖

EDGAR !

This was Edgar’s second time looking for his forever home. He was initially adopted as a kitten a few years ago, but sadly Edgar’s adopters couldn’t provide for him, so they surrendered him back to us so we could find him his home. Edgar’s foster dad Bill stepped right in and offered to foster him once again, until he was ready to graduate to the lounge.

Edgar is the perfect house panther! He was most definitely a favorite of our staff and volunteers, and it’s clear from his disposition that Bill gave him all the love he possibly could - and we know Edgar is thankful for that.

Kailee started volunteering with us a few weeks ago and after she came in for her shifts she knew she wanted to give Edgar his forever home - so she and her boyfriend applied for him and we were SO excited to see her name in the applications!!!

Kailee and Mike — thank you for giving this sweet boy a second chance. He is very deserving of all the great things that come along with being a house cat — like treats, toys, pets…and so much more. Thank you to his foster dad Bill — he is so very lucky he had you to care for him when he needed it the most.

Wendi will miss you Edgar, but we are so happy to know you have a long, wonderful life ahead of you with Kailee and Mike!

📲 SWIPE to see Edgar all settled in his new home!!

BIG MAC !

Sam adopted Grimace, one of the McDonald’s kittens, in the middle of June. He was the first of the McDonald’s kittens to be adopted after graduating to the lounge. Sam saw our posts about McRib and McMuffin being adopted, and she would email us and check in periodically to see if there was any interest in her. McRib and McMuffin’s adopters did the same!

Well, the last time she checked in and heard Big Mac was still with us, she asked if she could come back to the lounge to spend some time with her. We were thrilled!! No pressure, of course…but we did let her know if she was on board we would be happy to send Big Mac home with her - and that’s exactly what happened!!

Sam adopted Big Mac over the weekend and brought her home to reunite with her brother, and from Sam’s picture updates we think the reunion is going PERFECTLY!!

This story is one we are so glad we are able to tell you. Not only do we have the best supporters, volunteers, and staff — but we also have the best adopters. We are so so so happy these two are going to grow up together and we can’t WAIT to see those pictures!!

Sam — thank you for adopting not once, but twice. These kids will have the chance to grow together and spend their lives being loved and cared for by you. Thank you 🧡

📲 SWIPE to see Big Mac and Grimace in their new home!

AMY & JENNY !

Another double adoption - we love those!!! These girls came to us in May with their siblings Richie and Becky after being found by a Good Samaritan. Richie and Becky were adopted a few weeks ago by a previous adopter before they even graduated to the lounge!!

Foster momma extraordinaire Maryann didn’t have to think twice when we asked if she had room for these kids to grow. She took them in right away, loving them and caring for them and giving them a safe place while they worked towards hitting all of their milestones.

Leon and his family visited the lounge a few weeks ago and wanted to add a pair of kittens to their home. They came back to the lounge a couple of times to hang with the kitties, and on their last visit they decided this bonded pair of sisters was the pair for them. Proud foster momma Maryann was there to send them off!

Amy and Jenny get to grow up together, which means they will also have a built in best friend for life. Leon and family — thank you for giving these girls the chance to do that. We know these girls have a life full of love and LOTS of purrs ahead of them.

We wish you many years of love together — and thank you for choosing to adopt!

📖

DANI Z & ALMOND !

Two more amazing kittens found their forever home this week. Dani Z was one of Rizzo’s babies, and we told you all about their story when we posted about Frenchie’s adoption.

Almond came to us as a singleton in mid June. She was found alone by a Good Samaritan in their backyard, so Rachel went out to see if she could get her to safety - and she did. Almond was a little shy at first, but receptive to love - so we knew some time with our seasoned foster mom Courtney would get her ready for the lounge; and for adoption.

Christian came to visit and was looking to adopt, but it with so many great adoptable cats it was hard to choose! Almond and Dani was the pair he settled on, and we are so so so happy they will have each other to grow up with. Before Almond came to us, she was alone and without any other friends to snuggle up with. She will have Dani looking out for her now, and he will also be providing A+ snuggle buddy services.

THANK YOU for choosing to adopt and for giving these cats their forever home Christian! We can’t wait to see how they grow and blossom with you.

And thank you as always to our supporters. You pave the path for these cats, and allow us to do the work we do to better their lives. We can’t do it without you.

Okay we know it isn’t Tuesday - but we had to wait for the right light to get a good shot of the cat we wanted to tell you about this week…

Meet JELLYBEAN!

Jellybean has been with us for 414 days 😓. She is around 4 years old, and we pulled her from a local shelter over a year ago. She was transferred in to them after being found fending for herself on the streets of Newark - so it’s easy to see that the first few years of her life were less than ideal.

She is a calico tortie - and while she has the classic Tortietude trait, she is also a sweet girl who is just looking for someone who understands her. She likes pets and chin scratches, but she also will let you know when she has had enough. Jellybean needs a home with humans that are able to tune into her needs and respect her boundaries.

Jellybean coexists with the other cats at the lounge just fine - she mainly keeps to herself and doesn’t instigate with the other cats, so she would be fine to go as a solo cat or to a home with other cats. We do not think Jellybean would do well in a home with children.

Jellybean is the first cat to greet us in the morning at the lounge. She is an expert conversationalist and she would make a great companion for the right person. She is a staff favorite (even though we aren’t supposed to have those. Don’t tell the other cats 🤫) and it breaks our hearts every day to see this little girl that just wants her own place to call home, get overlooked and passed on time and time again just because she’s a little misunderstood.

Please help us share Jellybean, we know her human is out there. We just need some help finding that human for her. If you’d like to meet Jellybean, fill out an application to adopt and our team will be in touch.

FRENCHIE!!!

The first Grease baby has left the building!

Frenchie came to us with her siblings Dani Z and Sandy - and their Mom, Rizzo. They came by way of Patterson, where they were found in an abandoned construction site. Momma Rizzo cared for her babies and made sure they were safe and growing. Their foster mom Bridget did an amazing job caring for all of them - and we are so thankful she took them in.

Frenchie and her siblings are the loudest purrers I think we have ever come across, and they are the bestttttt LOVE BUGS. We knew they wouldn’t be here for very long - so when Mary applied to adopt and we saw Frenchie’s name we were so excited!

Frenchie is going to be spoiled - just as she should be. Her life started full of uncertainty but thanks to our team of Foster’s and supporters we were able to take them into our care and do everything we could to ensure they would have the best life we could give them.

Mary - THANK YOU for choosing to adopt. We know Frenchie is getting all the snuggles and love with you!!

MILK!

In early June, Milk came to us after he was discovered by a Good Samaritan in their backyard. This little guy was covered in fleas and ticks, so that was the first thing we took care of once we saw him!

He was examined by the medical team at and aside from the obvious flea and tick issue, he was healthy and estimated to be around 8 weeks old.

We soon sent him off to his foster home with our volunteer Courtney, where he grew and learned how to cat so he could graduate to the lounge for adoption.

We joked and called him Mini Hiccup - but we knew this orange boy wasn’t going to last long either us before he got scooped up. Tess saw him and knew she had to come and meet this guy - so she did, and it was an instant click!

We think it’s safe to say that Milk won’t have to worry about his life from here on out. Tess is absolutely over the moon with him and we are so happy we got to play a part in Milk and Tess finding each other. We can’t wait to see updates!!!

Thank you to everyone for once again making these adoptions possible. We can’t do it without your support.

PS — this adoption photo is adorable!

CATHERINE!

Yes, we finally sent Catherine the Great off to her forever home!!! The magic of social media worked in our favor, and after we posted about her we had an application come in right away.

Kelly sent her application in and came down to the lounge to meet this charismatic calico - and she knew right then and there she wanted to adopt her. She fell in love with Catherine for many reasons, but when Kelly came to pick Catherine up, the most touching thing she told us is that her late sister had the same name. Emotions were high!

It’s by happenstance that we are posting about Catherine’s adoption today. Exactly a year ago today is when she came to us, with the rest of the cats that we pulled from that situation. At that time she was coparenting with the other lactating queens, caring for kittens and unaware that a different life was ahead of her. She too had very bad teeth, and had most certainly been in pain for quite some time. None the less, she cared for those babies.

It is still a shock that a year has flown by, but at the same time we are able to look at all of the cats from that situation and see how far they have come. That rescue would of that would have been possible without all of your support, our staff and our volunteers - and the stellar team at who provided their medical care and all of those much needed dentals.

Kelly — THANK YOU. Catherine is going to be loved, spoiled, and we know she will never go without now that she has found you. Now she has someone to care for her, just as she did selflessly for her kittens.

What an incredible week of adoptions!!! And NO we are not crying!!!!

The Catsbury Park Cat Convention has always strived to be a unique and one-of-a-kind cat event.

This year, we are excited to bring something a bit different to the convention with our Sanctuary panel and Q&A. "After Rescue: The Importance of Sanctuaries and Why They Matter" will be a fun, educational, and in-depth discussion with many of the area's most impactful animal advocates.

This talk will feature the wonderful folks from Rancho Relaxo, Bluemont Equine Sanctuary, GoatsofAnarchy,
Wild Lands Wild Horses, and Red Feather Equine Sanctuary. Hosted and Moderated by Catsbury Parks founder DJ Bornschein, this intimate conversation will give attendees an opportunity to learn more about the work these folks do, why it's important, and how you can help. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions from the audience.
