Meet your teachers! 👋🏻

Hi, I’m Brittany, (the blonde) but you can call me Miss B. I’m the owner + head trainer @ Good Boy.

To my left, the red head, is Miss Haylie. She’s been working for me for 3 + years now. She’s my right hand man. If you have the pleasure of working with her, you are one of the lucky ones!

Since opening my doors 7 years ago, we’ve trained over 1.5k dogs, I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring 8 different trainers, and working with multiple rescues. I’ve had my own training facility, taught group classes, offered board and trains and even went back to school and received multiple certifications.

Now, we offer everything from pack walks to private lessons to day training and even a social club for pups and their humans.

We specialize in positive behavior change by modifying and reshaping negative canine behaviors and have fun doing it! Our goal with every client is that they don’t need us anymore.

We’re always walking around Asbury. If you see us, be sure to say hi! 👋🏻

How long will training take?”

Well that depends on what your goals are.
That depends on what you’re prioritizing.
What environmental factors are at play.
How often you train when we’re not around.
How committed and consistent everyone in the household is.
Your dogs genetics.
Your dogs prior learning history.
If there’s kids in the house.
How well exercised and how well your dogs needs are met.
If your dog doesn’t have any previous trauma or health conditions.
If your repetitions are successful.
If you generalize and train in different places.
If your guests listen to what you tell them to do.
And the list goes on 😊
Training takes time and the journey isn’t linear. You’re going to have good days and days where you take two steps back. Trust the process. That’s when the magic happens. All we ask is that you’re committed to what it takes to make real change!

New dog owners operate under the assumption that their dogs should just do what is expected of them.

But someone taught you to drive a car, tie your shoes, have manners and how to do your job. Agreeing to this same ideology with your dog will help you begin to understand that dogs need to be taught what is expected of them. And just how it took you many lessons, the same will be true for your pup. Remember, they do speak a different language after all.

Before you get a dog, make sure that you actually want a dog, and not a little robot.

Dogs bark, they pull on leash, they dig in the dirt, they chase wild animals, they explore the world with their mouth, and they don’t love every guest that walks into your house.

Behaviours which we as humans may deem as inappropriate, are actually completely natural and acceptable for our dogs.

By us continually trying to suppress these innate behaviours or trying to train our dogs to do things which are unnatural to them, it’s likely to cause them stress long term and you to be consistently frustrated.

In the same way we do not try and train anxiety out of humans, we instead give them the tools to manage their anxiety and feelings in a more successful way.

This should be the same for our dogs. Our concentration should be focused more on how to accept our dogs for who they are, not trying to train them into something else to suit our own needs and social pressure.

When you choose to bring a dog home, make sure you’re mentally prepared if they don’t turn out to be your dream dog. More often than not, this is the reality.

BRITTANY ERICKSON

I started Good Boy Training after a internship with an American Kennel Club (AKC), Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) on a farm in central New Jersey. I am a Animal Behavior College dog trainer (ABC-DT), a New Jersey Certified Animal Control Officer (ACO), a member of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and Fear Free Pet Professionals. I am a certified level 3 animal Reiki practitioner. I am certified in Pet CPR & First Aid, and veterinarian recommended.

Humane, force-free training is an extremely important practice to me and one of my top priorities as a trainer. Having worked with many adult dogs who struggle with anxiety and reactivity issues, I have a special passion for working with puppies to prevent these issues from developing in the first place. My goal is to provide you with the tools you need to have the dog of your dreams!
