About Me
Hi, my name is Laura Decker. I have been working in the equine industry for over 25 years and riding since I was 8. After many years of working for one farm or business at a time, I decided I wanted to work for myself. Over the years I've always had people asking if I know anyone that can help out last minute at the farm or a show, and I never knew anyone that did this kind of work as a job. So I created Decker Equine Services in May of 2019. I specialize in general daily horse care and body clipping, but not limited to just that. Have an odd job and need help? I'm sure I can accommodate for your specific needs. I have many years of a variety of experiences and I can easily adapt to your program and situations. .
A little about myself. Since I started riding at the age of 8, I immediately had the horse bug, and had my first horse (Radar a TB) by the age of 9. I started with low level eventing as well as dressage. I joined my local 4-H and Amwell Valley Hounds Pony Club. In the barn I grew up in, we did everything from dressage, show jumping, x-country, hunter paces, beach rides, games, western and even learned how to rope. I credit the wide variety of disciplines I experienced, into the horsewoman I am today. I was not one to play sports in school, I just wanted to be in the barn (barn rat) and ride my horses all the time. At age 12 we bought a 4 yo TB (Magic) off the track, not sure what we were thinking, but it was a learning experience. That horse taught me about patience, veterinary care and how to stay on when a horse decides they are going the other way. He was the last horse I owned, which was 20 years ago now. There has been so many other horses in my life that I have loved and cared for like they were my own. Some still hold a special place in my heart.
I’ve worked for many over the years, and the experiences I’ve encountered are priceless to me. I’ve had on many hats, from working in a tack store, to managing many farms and teaching countess lessons, and becoming a sport saddle specialist. I've worked in a rehab barn and being the person who works closely with the vets. I’ve learned a lot and I have all that knowledge to offer now.
Here’s a brief list of farms, companies and people I’ve worked for over the years without going into details: Euro-American Saddlery; Upper Creek Farm; Springhill Farm; Market Street; Sheridan Show Jumpers; Bow Brickhill Stables; High Brass Farm; Paws & Rewind; Veritas Farms; Voltaire Design. With all of these places comes many experiences and situations along the way. I don’t think any college course could teach what I’ve learned over the years.
