As the 4th of July quickly approaches, we as pet owners can take some extra precautions to help keep our cats and dogs feeling comfortable and fear-free this holiday.
Unfortunately many pets suffer with this type of anxiety during thunderstorms or when loud noises, like fire-works, are present. Noise aversion is a spectrum and can manifest in many different forms. You may notice your dog experience slight anxiety or is terrified, and may pace, bark, tremble, or hide. Side-note: Make sure to keep your pets well contained! Often times when pets become frightened, they try to escape and hide. Noises like fireworks create this exact situation, so take extra precautions with your pet’s surroundings. In general, cats are more prone to hiding, but may become aggressive if their fight or flight response is triggered.
No pet parent wants their companion to experience anxiety and fearfulness, luckily we can help! There are many medications and supplements we carry that have been created by veterinarians and pharmacologists to safely lower your pets anxiety.

Some Helpful Tips to Avoid Heat Stroke:
- Walk your dog early in the day, or later in the evening to avoid the harsh mid-day sun
- Do not leave your dog outside unsupervised for extended periods of time
- Do not muzzle your dog on walks. Panting is the only way dogs can reduce their internal body temperature.
- Keep a collapsible water bowl and cooling rag with you on walks and hikes this summer!
