So many pictures for a single post 😮‍💨. My good dogs Canelo, Rocco, Frodo, Gizmo, Harley, and Xena graduated on Monday night. Rocco and Frodo had some explaining to do about their “missing pictures” but they were honest. Their stories track. Also included are pictures of Rocco doing some outstanding heel work, Frodo watching a big, clear hand signal for “come”, Gizmo staying and Canelo focusing.

I believe certain other businesses are offering free treats for your dogs today. Starbucks, Dunkin’, Dairy Queen, Chick Fil A, and PetCo just to name a few. I would definitely call and ask before making a special trip. It may vary by location.

Caroline’s next puppy class will be starting on Thursday, Sept 4th from 7:30-8:30pm. This class is for puppies of all shapes and sizes who are 10-16 weeks old. Bringing your new canine family member to school is one of the best things you can do to ensure the road ahead will be a smooth ride. We look forward to seeing you in class!

Puppies! Caroline’s puppy class graduated last week and Samantha was ready to capture their big night with her camera. Good puppies Sadie, Rocky, Mavis, Max, Kizzie, Lucy Beth, and Haley did puppy push ups, ran the obstacle course, and played musical fast sit during their first (but hopefully not last) graduation night at Southern Tails. We hope to see them again soon in Advanced Puppy!

There’s still time to go see Caroline and to run the practice agility course at the My Dog Can Do That booth at The Greensboro Coliseum today until 2:00 (see previous post for more info). You can also do AKC Trick Dog while you’re there. If you see an exceptionally handsome Basset Hound, that’s Huey. The beautiful Black and Tan Coonhound? Miss Tulip Blossom. Both are Southern Tails students who are strutting their stuff in the show ring. Spectating is more Josie’s speed.

Josie earned her AKC Novice Trick Dog title! Come see Caroline at The Greensboro Coliseum until 2:00 today and from 10:00am-2:00pm tomorrow and you and your dog can do the same. She will also be doing My Dog Can Do That which is a fun and easy introduction to agility. We had 4 Southern Tails alumni to come and complete the course within the first hour! If you’re looking for something to do with your dog this weekend I would highly recommend giving it a try.

Our Loose Leash Walking Class worked on approaching other dogs without pulling or becoming overexcited. They all made it look like a cakewalk even though this exercise is one of the more difficult things to practice. They also showed impressive focus on their people when asked to leave the free food available to them inside of their snufflemats and to “come” when called. Talk about challenging!

Gidget, Lilith, Amos, Cashew, and Benji (I’ll get his picture next week) started Obedience 102 this week. They all learned to work on their platforms and added distance and time to their sit/stay. Gidget is practicing the first steps to learning the “go to your place” command. Lilith is showing off her moving touches.

Our newest OB 101 students during their second week of class. Atlas moving from left to right to do some touches without the food lure. Cookie hearing the word “come” as she moves towards her mom. She then politely sits for her treat while she receives some sneaky, deliberately placed neck scratches over the top of her collar. This will condition her to having people reach for her collar without startling her. Maggie is working on holding a “sit/stay” even when she is given a treat. Just because your dog is given food, it doesn’t mean they can get up. They need to learn to wait for you to give them their release words. Reign practicing her position changes and doing a very nice “down” in her classroom.

Caroline will be running the My Dog Can Do That Booth at The Carolina Kennel Club’s “Carolina Cluster” event at The Greensboro Coliseum this weekend! If you have a dog that is well mannered in public settings you should come out and see her! If you wish to participate in the My Dog Can Do That introduction to agility, please bring your proof of rabies vaccination with you. I know I don’t have to say this to Southern Tails Students but, no prong collars or flexileads. This is a fun, indoor event with vendors and dogs participating in conformation. It’s important to give the show dogs their much deserved respect and space. Sign up for a canine partners number and get a free t-shirt. Caroline hopes to see you there!

If you loved your last class, you’re going to love this one even more. OB 102 is where training really gets fun — and effective. Since everyone already has the basics down, Corey will focus on taking your skills (and your dog’s!) to the next level:

🐾 Stronger Focus – Keep your dog’s attention even with distractions.
🐾 Reliable Come – Because you want it to work every time, not just at home.
🐾 New Commands – Including the super-useful PLACE command.
🐾 Fun & Challenging Skills – “Open your mind” exercises that get you thinking like a trainer.
🐾 Grad Night Selfie! – Yes, your dog will take their own photo using the FOOT command.
🐾 Canine Behavior Insights – We’ll explore the fascinating book The Culture Clash to deepen your understanding of your dog’s mind.

Must have at least their 1st
DHPP of the three and Bordetella
No pups on week 1
