I believe he was tickling the ivories to the tune of Raspberry Beret, but I can’t be sure. He’s only just begun to play the piano. Prince practicing “foot” on different objects in his Obedience 101 class this week. 🎶 🎹

In our Obedience 101 class last night future dog trainer Adeline practices her hand signal for “sit” with her good boy, Rocky. Rocky and the other dogs also learned how to find the heel position. Maui and Fancy did a perfect job holding their sit/stay while their handlers added distance by walking to the end of their leads. (Rocky did too… I just didn’t get photographic evidence.)

Kenobi, Sorcha, Pete the Cat and Ace had film shoots last month. They enjoyed their special day being stars and were great on set!

We ALWAYS need new pups and dogs for clients filming ads and commercials.
All breeds are welcome but we get a lot of inquires for Goldens and Labs. If your dog is trained to STAY with distraction and is super social with new humans ....please send us pictures showing their personality and give me a call so we can explain the process to you if you are interested in having us take your dog on a film shoot.

The tiniest foot on the tiniest “foot board.” Zoe and her classmates learned the word “foot” in their obedience 102 class last night. Everyone also took some time to work on leash manners. Theresa and Prince made it look easy!

I love these pictures of Cheryl and Bochelli. He was being an overachiever and coming closer to heeling than loose leash walking when we were only asking for “let’s go” and “steady.” Impressive footwork Chelli!

Bongo, Jak, Doc, and Lyla graduated from their obedience 101 class last night with a touch of a Halloween theme mixed into their party. Since I believe that there shouldn’t be an age limit on trick-or-treating there were Scooby-Doo candy bags for the people, and Halloween prizes for the dogs. Junior dog trainer, Jacob, helped to take pictures and pass out items at the end of class. The face that Doc made over his toy bat makes it seem like he knew it was supposed to be spooky! 👻

The only bad part about the Loose Leash Walking class is trying to take pictures of everything that goes on. We used tennis balls, squeaky tug toys, 15 foot leads, and snuffle mats this week. If you struggle with a dog that isn’t reliable about coming to you when you call them, these are some great training tools to use to strengthen your recall.

1.) Cormac working on his recall on a long lead by using squeaky tennis balls. Look at him flying after that ball in the middle picture. 😆
2-4.) Cormac sniffing and snuffling around in his snuffle mat for low value food rewards. As soon as his dad, Ryan, says “let’s go” and adds even the slightest amount of pressure to the leash that is Cormac’s cue to pick his nose up from the ground, put his focus back on his dad, and start moving forward again. This earns Cormac a high value treat (chicken), lots of smiles and happy praise, and the reward of continuing on his walk. Having a dog that ignores you when their nose picks up an interesting smell while out on a walk is a common and normal issue. Teaching your dog to sniff at appropriate times is key. Wonderful job guys!

Obedience 102

Marsha and Lilah in a staring contest with one another while working on increasing the amount of time your dog maintains eye contact with you when you ask for “look.”

My golden girls, Riley Grace, and Lilah accidentally found themselves practicing “go!” completely in sync with each other.

Riley Grace and Alana look like they’re doing the basics with “sit” and “down”, but if you look closer you’ll notice they are doing it with verbal commands ONLY. No hand signals. It’s harder than it looks!

Just a few highlights from our new Obedience 101 class.

She’s a what? An Estrela Mountain Dog named Arwen! She’s only 5 1/2 months old and she is as smart as she is fluffy. Here she is polishing up her “sit” and “stand” commands.

Kiwi and Cruz are competing for the “Best Ears” award.

Angelic little JRT, Millie, is the first student that I have ever had to bring treat bags for her classmates on the first day of school. 🦴

Good girl Suki! In her third week of loose leash walking class last night Suki and her classmates learned how to “off” increasingly tempting objects and odors while maintaining a slack leash with NO tension being held by the dog or the handler. As human beings it is our automatic, reflexive response to tighten up on the dogs leash and to continue to hold the leash forcefully taught without offering the dog any type of guidance to return to a stress free leash. This is one of the main reasons dogs learn to pull harder and harder while they’re out on walks. If the leash goes tight, it is your job as your dogs teacher to get rid of the tension as quickly as possible before continuing forward.
Suki is learning the prompt “let’s go” while responding to her focus commands “ready” and “look” and is also displaying wonderful impulse control when her mom asks her for “off” and “steady.” The items on the floor?
1.) My fat house cats napping box of the week
2.) Alpaca fleece straight from the source
3.) My pet mouse’s stinky dirty bedding
… phew! Imagine what that must smell like to a dog. Great job Suki!
