Understanding your dog's [G]enetics is so important to setting up their environment and learning experiences so that they can thrive!
One of our Family Dog Mediators- Bridget- from Hounds At Home shares about meeting the needs of her sweet bully, Sonic.
"My American Bully (Bully / Terrier) is the resident Vole Patrol and he checks the yard and garden for rodents. Yesterday he found a mouse in the wood pile, and had a ball smashing through the wood pile to try to find the mouse (no mice were harmed). In addition to his yard patrol duties, he loves playing with his frisbee and flirt pole, and we make sure we do this so he has something he can actually catch, grab, and shake. He enjoys FastCAT, swimming, and hiking. Indoors, he enjoys smashing through busy boxes and cuddling in a pile with the other dogs."
Understanding that these are all representations of Sonic's genetics is crucial helping to set him up for success!

Daniel's chat on resource guarding was awesome! So much interesting science that goes into modifying guarding behaviors. Safety and welfare- even through the lens of neurobiology- are so important for our pets.

Next is Kelsey Weber discussing how we can use the LEGS framework for a variety of domestic animals.

Sonia's presentation was SO fascinating! With a room full of dog behavior pros, you might think it is weird to talk about cats, but MANY client homes have multiple species. We owe it to these families to make sure we have a foundation in the ethology, needs and behavior of these other common species to be better able to advocate for all of the beings involved in the case.

Wendy's presentation was out of this world. If you didn't tune in for the livestream- stay tuned for the recording! A developing brain has many needs for both children and dogs. We need to nurture the development of that organ in ways that are natural, supportive and safe.

Laura gave a wonderful presentation on how to support your clients and their vet team from the LEGS perspective. There are so many factors that impact the pet's experience in the veterinary setting so, untangling some of those LEGS considerations to find a way forward that builds trust and resilience in all parts of the Pet-Parent-Pro team is critical.
