Grow grass, not w**ds. As we move into fall, it's a great time to think about pasture and hay field w**d control. Tough biennial and perennial w**ds are actively moving sugars down to their roots as they prepare for dormancy, making systemic herbicides more effective at this time.
Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
Timing
Target applications between October and early November
Ideally, spray at least two weeks before a hard frost
Avoid spraying under drought conditions — wait until there's adequate soil moisture.
Herbicide Options
2,4-D – Traditionally accepted broadleaf control.
Dicamba – Good broadleaf control.
Crossbow – better on woody stem plants; can injure interseeded legumes.
Remedy / Triclopyr – Controls woody or stemmy w**ds. Can injure legumes.
DuraCor – offers broad-spectrum broadleaf w**d control for pastures and rangeland. Can injure legumes. Residual control.
Grazon Next HL – a popular choice for tough pasture and rangeland w**ds, helping to clear the way for more desirable forage, also injurious to legumes. Residual control.
NovaGraz -flexible, non-residual option that preserves white clover.
