We received this message from a client "This is how comfortable my cat is Open Door Veterinary Care . When have you ever seen a cat show their belly at the vet?" We love hearing feedback like this as we always strive to make visits as stress free as possible.

We think you’ll love our new veterinary assistant.

Misfit Mountain got us misty eyed with this post. We love hearing this amazing adoption updates!

(Turkey, previously known as Landon from our friends at Duplin County Animal Services) NOW known as BRUCE, was originally facing euthanasia at Duplin County back in November 2023 when we initially pulled him.

He was heartworm positive at the time-our second Misfit to take on treatment, and he completed treatment shorlty after Cruso!

Bruce was able to find his foster family right away, with loving humans: Leah & Jesse, who were already certain they wanted to adopt sweet Bruce once his treatment was complete. 🥹🫶

Leah & Jesse stayed in consistent contact the whole time-from picture and video updates, to letting us know how Bruce was feeling-we were all rooting him on!🥳
Fast forward to present day, and Bruce is finally heartworm negative & ready to live a normal life! Not only did he successfully complete his treatment, but Jesse & Leah also finalized his adoption!! Woohoo!🥰 They are now the proud parents to Bruce!

An additional thank you to our amazing friends at Open Door Veterinary Care for taking such great care of Bruce during his treatment!

Congratulations to Leah, Jesse, & Bruce! We are elated for this beautiful family & so happy that Bruce has found his humans!😍

Did you notice Leah & Jesse are matching with Bruce?

It's Veterinary Receptionist Week! If you've ever been to our clinic or called on the phone chances are you've met Patrice and Molly who make up our reception team (along with Brittany who does double duty as reception/assistant). They are the face of our clinic and the first friendly voice you hear on the phone, the first and last smile you see when you come in and are often soothing clients who are worried about their pets. We are so lucky to have their compassion and dedication to our clients and pets. If you see them please wish them a happy Veterinary Receptionist Week!

Meet Shana, one of our veterinary assistants! Shana just celebrated her year anniversary but has been in the vet field for 7 years this September! She is a boxer fanatic and loves to show off her own boxers Blayze and Debo.
Shana’s passion lies in being a voice for the innocent and helping owners afford proper veterinary care for their pets. She specializes in low stress handling and canine communication. She also loves a good ear cleaning and nail trim! Say hi to Shana next time you’re in.

Zinnia had a follow up appointment this morning with us and she is officially cleared for adoption through Misfit Mountain and to go home to her new family! Woohoo!🤎

Zinnia was so sweet to bring some sweet treats for our team for treating her and her friends like Cruso and Turkey/Bruce who went through heartworm treatment and are now both negative!

We love partnering with Misfit Mountain. They are a small, but mighty group doing such good helping dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, and small animals find loving homes. Please consider donating to them or fostering. They are always looking for fosters so they can help more pets in need:

Cocoa was a client of ours as a puppy. Two years ago she ran off after a deer and her family was devastated. They thought they'd never see her again. Recently she showed up at a shelter and the shelter scanned her for a microchip and she was reunited with her original family. They were so excited to have her back. This is the power of microchips and why they are so important. Make an appointment to get our pet microchipped at Open Door for only $26. Ask Cocoa's family-it is worth it!

Happy two year anniversary to Brittany! She works as a vet assistant seeing room appointments and surgery assistant and at our front desk. She loves focusing on low-stress care for your pet and loves all our patients but has a special place for German shepherds (we think you may see why in her picture with her dog Timber!) Thank you Brittany for all of your dedication to Open Door and our clients. Feel free to comment below and we will gladly share your words of affirmation with Brittany in the coming weeks.

In the news

You may have seen multiple news sources talking about a new upper respiratory infection that is affecting dogs. Although we don’t know much about the cause of this disease - it is currently suspected to be a virus.

With the holiday season in full swing, we recommend that if your dog is going to be boarded or around other dogs that they should be vaccinated for bordetella, parainfluenza and canine influenza for best protection.

If your pet is showing clinical signs of an upper respiratory infection such as coughing, sneezing, nasal and/or eye discharge, and lethargy - they should be kept separate from other dogs and seen by your veterinarian ASAP

Other ways to keep your pet safe:
Reduce contact with large numbers of unknown dogs.
Avoid contact with sick dogs
Keep sick dogs at home and seek veterinary care.
Avoid communal water bowls shared by multiple dogs.

If you need to schedule your pet for their vaccines or have any additional questions reach out to us at the clinic We have all these vaccines in stock at Open Door.

09/22/2023

Nemo was recently adopted and his new dad traveled 15 hours round trip to a shelter to adopt him after seeing a Facebook post/plea. Nemo is deaf & had been at shelter for 2 weeks with no potential adopter and many shelters are very overcrowded and overwhelmed right now. So a busy shelter environment is not the best place for a deaf dog. He stayed there for a few days while Nemo was neutered and ready to come home. He brought Nemo to us for his first veterinary visit. Nemo was the perfect patient, full of kisses & snuggles. This story just made our day. Shelter pets rock!
