As the year comes to a close, we can’t help but reflect on the incredible resilience shown by our community. Thank you to our SAVES family, volunteers, and supporters for stepping up when it mattered most. You turned challenges into opportunities to serve, heal, and rebuild. ❤️
From disaster relief efforts to outreach programs, these moments remind us of the difference we can make when we come together. Through devastation, we witnessed the power of unity. Together, we provided care, support, and hope for those impacted—both two- and four-legged. 🐾
As we look to the future, you can help us continue this mission by donating to Hilda’s Heroes. Your support ensures we can provide resources for our outreach and volunteer efforts in times of need. 💛

🐾 Our favorite part of each day! 🐾
Thanks to the generosity of our community, Blue is back in their owner’s loving arms! Moments like these remind us why we’re here every day.
After coming to us in critical condition, Blue received life-saving treatment and hospitalization, only made possible by donations to Hilda’s Heroes Fund. Your donations save lives, and bring pets in critical condition back to their families!

We are so happy for Beau and his family!
Meet Joey! 👋 This sweet girl is being treated by our neurologist, Dr. Arizmendi. Here she is getting fitted for her booties. She wanted to show everyone her new strut!
Dr. Arizmendi performing an MRI
MRIs are commonly performed on humans to closely examine the brain and spinal cord. But did you know that they can also be used on your pets as well? 🧠🐶🐱
When traditional tests fail to determine a source of illness, MRIs are a great way to help pinpoint the cause and provide answers as to why neurological conditions are occurring. This will allow your pet to receive the treatment they need to hopefully slow or halt their condition. ❣️
If you are in need of neurological care for your pet, Dr. Sohaila Arizmendi, who is performing the MRI in this video, and our neurology team welcomes the opportunity to be part of your pets' healthcare team. Speak with your veterinarian and ask about a referral to see how we can help!
Tomorrow is the big day!
Upstate Vet, Asheville will officially be South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES).
And that's not all! We will begin seeing patients from our newly expanded hospital.
Until then, watch our new building video tour for a sneak peek at what's inside! 🎥
Ear infections are a common problem in cats and dogs due to the L-shape of their ear canals.
🐶 Causes of pet ear infections include allergies, heat, trapped moisture, excessive ear wax, ear mites, foreign material, and unknown growth.
🦮 Breeds with floppy ears like Cocker Spaniels, Poodles or Golden Retrievers can be more prone to ear infections although cats can get them too.
👀 Symptoms of an ear infection include red or inflamed ears, black/brown or yellow/green discharge, strong odor, ear scratching of shaking of head, whimpering, loss of balance, hearing loss, unusual eye movements, or walking in circles.
💭 If you suspect your furry friend has an infection, make an appointment with your pet's primary care veterinarian.

Summertime means more cookouts!
When having backyard parties and cookouts, make sure to keep an eye on your pet. Sneaking scraps and getting treats from guests can lead to a vet visit that'll rain on everyone's parade!
Zuko here is clearly "dog aggressive"... to hot dogs!

Independence Day firework festivities can turn a time of celebration into one of terror for many dogs. 🎆
From a dog's perspective, loud, unpredictable noises accompanied by bright lights are threatening and a cause for alarm. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way.
