The learner decides what is reinforcing! In this video, Rynn (from ) is not impressed with the baby food I am offering her as rewards for performing the behavior I asked. Maybe she was confused about licking it out of the pouch, maybe she was intimidated by the weird hand movements I had to make around her head in order to squeeze it out, or maybe she just didn't like the taste. Whatever the case, she opted to go back to her crate instead of continuing to work, so I ended the training session and let her have her dinner in peace.

Did you know that baby food can make a great dog treat? Yeah, that was a new one for me too, so I tried it out with my own dogs before suggesting it to clients. Vigil (from beta litter) was a fan! Since baby food works best as a reinforcer for calm, sustained behaviors, I used it in this video to reward him for offering me eye contact while in front and heel position. There is certainly a learning curve on the part of the human!
