I had the privilege this past week to try and teach shearing to a young woman who is very interested in becoming a shearer. I was unaware of this opportunity until we pulled up to the job! Oksana was at a homesteading event and found herself very intrigued at the idea of being a sheep shearer. Poor girl got stuck getting tips from me! She was an absolute sponge, and I hope she can continue to learn and become a great shearer. I told her all about how I learned by going west and working under Kerr Sheep Shearing. Perhaps she can do the whole program and make it to Australia!

Cool to shear during such an event. Not cool to deal with all the traffic and inconsiderate tourists.

Our Story

Started in 2015 WKleinert Farms was founded by William Kleinert. Started thanks to the opportunity given to him by his grandfather John Panozzo. Thirteen small acres has turned to over 200+! The passion to farm and the satisfaction of making high quality hay is what drives us every day. Through all the hardships of making dry hay in the humid midwest climate we take a lot of pride in the product we make. Continuing to learn and adopting the very best in modern haymaking practices.

In the winter of 2019-2020 William set the trail west to learn how to professionally shear sheep. Thanks to the great teachers at Kerr Sheep Shearing and their dedication to the upbringing of the next generation of American shearers William came home with the skills and the knowledge to commercially shear and operate. Learning how to shear a quality fleece and how to package the wool to make the most money for the producer is a skillset Will is very excited to bring to every farm he shears.

This has not been a one man operation by far. Many great friends have been alongside for the ride as well. Men and women who have or will be going on to be extremely successful in the career path of their choosing. As sad as it is at times to see them move on from the farm there is always nothing but best wishes.
