I always say I am lucky to be in a job where my clients are always super excited to see me. Best feeling ever. This is Lucie giving me my weekly greeting. She always runs back to me two or three times for more snuggles when I arrive. #luckyme
Meet Finn. Owner of the most expressive ears I have ever seen. In the coming weeks I’ll try to snap a pic of him demonstrating each of his many ear configurations. In the meantime, enjoy them in floppy mode.
The first few steps of a dog in their booties is always cause for a few snort-laughs. We took our dog, Josie, on our backpacking trip for some much needed R&R. Her paw pads are very prone to cracks and cuts so we always have her wear her booties on trails. We’re still searching for the right style/size for her though so if you have a favorite please chime in in the comments with your recommendation!
Though we usually only board doggos, during the spring and summer we also foster wee kittens for the shelter. This is Samosa and Scoobers, sisters who are about five weeks old. They’ll be adoptable in about four weeks after their spay appointments.
I have to admit something: I have a doggie crush. There is a dog in my neighborhood who I will go out of my way to visit any chance I get. Her name is Cody and she is a white puffball of pure joy. She seriously brightens my day ever damn time I see her. You can see why in the video— she looooves life. It could be raining and she’d still be doing this happy dance in her yard. I adore her and have thought more than once about asking her human to put me as her next of kin so I could have Cody as my pup someday. If I ever get another tattoo it might just say “Be like Cody”.
One of Otis’s secret skills is being able to go into Deep Zen in a matter of seconds with any slow noggin petting or chin scratching. #livinginthemoment
Another snowy morning at Camp Furry Family. That calls for a walk up in the woods.
Ever wonder why your dog drools or chatters their teeth when sniffing something? They are assimilating amazing information about what they are sniffing! Dogs not only smell a scent but they also "taste" a scent, as my pal Buddy is demonstrating this video (you can see a big drool at about five seconds in as well as some light mouth chomping).
Dogs are recruiting two body parts when they are doing a deep dive into a scent: the vomeronsal organ and the incisive papilla. The vomeronsal organ is shaped like a small pouch and is located between the nasal and vomer bones which are located at the roof of the dog's mouth. This organ sends pheromone messages gleaned from the scent to the brain for decoding.
The incisive papilla are located behind the top incisor teeth; this duct connects a dog's nose and mouth. When a dog chatters and drools while sniffing, they're basically shoving information up to that duct with their tongue.
Amazing!
Meet Lucie, my newest walking client. Mini Aussies always have that fun booty wiggle when walking that makes them look like they’re wearing a skirt that’s swishing from side to side. Rest assured she got a hearty serving of treats for that super fast recall at the end of the video.
I just have to share this because it’s just so stinkin’ cute. My friends went to pick up the pup they got as a companion for their boxer, Sazi, who is six. Sazi is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. Whenever I come over she waits at the window, staring out and wiggling her boxer booty. When she gets to come out to greet me, she simply embodies unfettered joy. She’s really good for the old ego, I can tell you that! So it’s so fun to see Sazi get a present in the form of a playmate. I love how she keeps coming back to her new sis, Lillet Rouge, to try to get her to follow her. There are some fun times ahead at the GreenStead farm! I can’t wait to visit!
Bridger was in his happy place the other day with all the snow.
This is Chase. I got to do twice-a-day visits with him and his five brothers and sisters recently. Chase had been a neighbor’s cat but then his family moved away. But Chase decided home was home and he kept walking back to his old neighborhood. This involved crossing some rather busy streets, so his former neighbor and now new mom decided to just adopt him (with the blessings of his former owners, of course). He’s one lucky dude. And a snuggle bug.
Bridger, acting out what every school kid wishes they were doing right now.
The earliest walk of the day. Not much snow at that point but the wind was wicked!
