🚨 Important Update: Leptospirosis Now a Core Vaccine for ALL Dogs
The 2022 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines have been updated to classify the leptospirosis vaccine as CORE for all dogs starting at 12 weeks of age – regardless of lifestyle, location, or breed.
Why the change?
🌆 ALL dogs are at risk—urban, suburban, and rural.
⚠️ Potentially fatal, even with treatment.
🔄 Zoonotic—it can spread from pets to humans.
🏢 Dogs in daycare and kennels also face exposure risks.
You can find the full update in the Nov/Dec issue of JAAHA, or check out the full 2022 Canine Vaccination Guidelines here: aaha.org/canine-vaccinations

As we bring Vet Tech Week to an end we want to recognize the last two of six of our technicians!

Seen on the left is Tori. She has been a tech for 6 years now after being an assistant for 4 years! She also wears multiple hats as our inventory manager & one of our preceptors to our tech students. She is always engaged and happy to share her knowledge to clients and coworkers to better assist our furry friends. When she isn’t working she loves to spend her time camping with her family!
When asked what her favorite part about being a LVT was she responded: “Being a Licensed Veterinary Technician brings me tremendous joy, allowing me to nurture health and connection through wellness visits, observing patients' growth, and cultivating relationships with pets and owners. My days are filled with purpose, shifting between routine check-ups and caring for those who need healing. I'm deeply inspired by my role, advocating for those without a voice.”

Seen on the right is Yvonne. She has spent many years in the vet field and just hit her 5 year mark with us and continues to show a positive attitude and good spirits. When she is not working she loves to spend her free time with her family at her son’s sporting events. When asked what was her favorite part about being a LVT she responded: “I like working with the patients and clients directly. My favorite genera is geriatrics and feisty cats/dogs. I get the most satisfaction from my job when I see a positive result in a patient’s condition that directly improves the quality of life for everyone in the household, both animal and human.“

Thank you for all your hard work ladies! ❤️

Vet Tech Week isn’t over yet! Today we are celebrating Samantha & Heather M., both who graduated from Blue Ridge Community College.

Seen on the left is Samantha. She wears many hats and titles in our clinic, some of which are being Lead LVT & one of the preceptors for our tech students. Samantha goes out of her way to provide the best care and knowledge not only to our furr friends & their families but coworkers as well.
When asked her favorite part of being an LVT she responded: “My favorite part of being an LVT is working with animals and giving a voice to those who can’t speak, and anesthesia and surgery.

Seen on the right is Heather M..
If you’re ever wondering where Heather is she’s probably out exploring and traveling!
When she isn’t traveling, she is striving to be as gentle and caring to our four legged friends. When asked about her favorite part she responded: “I love many things about being an LVT. The daily routine has such a vast range of tasks. In one day, I can be a part of preventive medicine, technical lab work, communicating with clients, and at times, emergent situations. You develop bonds in this field with pets, their owners, and your colleagues. It is a high pressure field, but it has so many rewards that come with it! ♡”

Thank you both for being exceptional in everything you do! ❤️

As we continue to celebrate Vet Tech Week we want to acknowledge two out of six of our powerhouses Sheila and Donna!

Sheila has been a LVT for 32 years now!
She continues to strive for all our four legged friends and their families!
When asked what her favorite part about being a LVT was she responded: “As a LVT I enjoy being able to help animals when I can, whether it’s treating patients that are sick or consoling those who are scared.”

Donna has been a LVT 29 years! When it comes to bloodwork Donna is on it!
When asked the same question, she responded: “My love for animals, especially cats & dogs”

Thank you both for all you do! 🐾❤️
