🚨 Important Alert: Protect Your Cats from H5N1 (Avian Flu) 🚨
Did you know that the H5N1 virus (avian flu) is affecting cats? While the risk to humans is low, cats can get very sick from this virus—sometimes fatally. Here’s what you need to know:
🐾 How Do Cats Get H5N1?
• Eating raw or undercooked meat (especially poultry)
• Drinking unpasteurized milk or colostrum
• Contact with infected birds, livestock, or contaminated environments
🐾 Signs of Infection:
• Loss of appetite, lethargy, fever
• Trouble walking, tremors, or seizures
• Heavy eye/nose discharge
• Difficulty breathing, sneezing, or coughing
🐾 How to Protect Your Cat:
✔️ Keep cats indoors to prevent exposure to birds and livestock
✔️ Only feed fully cooked meat—no raw diets or unpasteurized dairy
✔️ Wash hands after handling animals, poultry, or livestock environments
✔️ Contact your vet immediately if your cat shows symptoms
