Where are all the livetraps at? 🤯

We are currently experiencing a shortage of live traps, which are essential tools for our work. If any of our community members have borrowed or have one of our live traps, we kindly request that you return it as soon as possible. We are down to only one broken trap, whereas we used to have 20-30 traps. Without these traps, we are unable to carry out our work effectively.

You can drop off the traps at any time by leaving them at our front door.

If you have a working live trap that you no longer need, we would be grateful if you could donate it to us.

Thank you for your help!

The shelter has recently welcomed beautiful Australian Shepherd mix siblings, who are taking time to warm up to the staff but are already showcasing their gorgeous, sweet faces. These boys will be available soon for adoption. They are house broken, love walks and car rides. They can be a tad shy with new people. We'd love to find someone that knows the breed!

Neiko Brown) and Tonka (Blue) are about 3 years old, probably would do best in a home with no young children.

Meet a new arrival Orla, 7 Mos old.

This gorgeous shy girl is Orla.. she is a mix of Great Dane and Cane Corso. Being at the shelter is super confusing for her right now, though like many dogs they become resilient, but treats help! She was brought in due to her need to run in her home and her previous owner not being able to handle her. We do think in a structured home she would really bloom! A fenced in yard would be ideal but not necessary. She does well with dogs, we will test her with cats as she becomes more comfortable. She does not do well with chickens. If you think Orla might be a good fit for you and your family give us a jingle 715.682.9744!

CHA’s Story

The Chequamegon Humane Association was founded in 1980 as the Chequamegon Animal League (CAL) as it was then known. A brainchild of volunteers who saw a need in our area, CAL operated out of volunteer homes until a parcel of land was obtained from the city of Ashland on Old Airport Road. In 1994 CHA received a generous bequeath, which allowed us to implement a minimum standard of care so that only spayed or neutered animals, up-to-date on vaccinations were released for adoption. This significant step was the first toward curbing the continuous flow of unwanted cats and dogs in our area. CHA has come a long way since its humble beginnings thanks to our wonderful community. In 2016 thanks to a generous donation and a successful Capital Campaign we broke ground on a new facility where CHA resides today. This new facility allows us to help more animals and run programs that benefit the community. Programs we simply couldn’t run before because our prior facility would not allow it. In 2017, we moved into our new facility at 93 Rail Drive. Making the move allows us to run programs that serve our community like the low-cost Spay/Neuter Program for low-income pet owners, a Pet Food Pantry, Low Cost Adoptions for Senior Citizens, and more. Our animals now receive a standard of care which includes vaccines, spay/neuter, micro-chipping, socialization and medical care when needed (e.g. dental care, treatment for illnesses, etc.) CHA animals have gone to receive obedience training in a wonderful Prison Training Program. This program allowed us to provide obedience training to dogs who needed it to make them more adoptable and better canine citizens. We are currently looking for another Prison Training Program to partner as the prison we were working with in Michigan was closed so stay tuned. For 39 years the Chequamegon Humane Association has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets. The staff and board of directors sincerely hope you will join us in continuously making our community a better place for all pets and their people.
