We have had a few cases of mycotoxin poisoning recently. Its not a poisoning that folks are generally familiar with, so we thought we'd share the information to raise awareness.-

Ingestion of mouldy food from the bin or a compost pile puts dogs, cats, horses, livestock, and even wildlife at risk for toxicity due to tremorgenic mycotoxins. These toxins may be found in MOULDY bread, pasta, cheese, nuts, or other decaying matter like compost. Clinical signs include vomiting, agitation, incoordination, tremors, seizures, and elevated body temperature. A specific mycotoxin called aflatoxin can even cause liver failure. Be sure to keep mouldy food and compost out of your pets reach!

Black Fly Season is BACK!!! We’ve had several calls with concerns about spots that look like those on the picture below!

While they can look concerning and painful, pets with black fly bites recover within a few days without the need of a vet visit. However, If you notice your pet is excessively itchy, you may apply hydrocortisone cream or an antibiotic ointment but otherwise no treatment is needed.

If the problem doesn’t resolve after a few days give us a call ☎️ 598-947-9400. We hope this helps!

It’s important to keep your human and pet family safe. This can include regular checks after being outside, spraying clothing with repellent especially when in or near the woods, pet flea and tick prevention & yard treatments if you find ticks after being in your yard.
