Summer Pet Safety Tip: Don’t Let Dehydration Sneak Up

Our pets are about 70% water — just like us — and they need fresh water to stay healthy.

🐾 Signs of dehydration:
Dry nose, sunken eyes, sticky gums, and low energy.
✅ Sloppy wet gums = hydrated
❌ Sticky or dry gums = time to drink!

💧 Water should be changed at least twice a day, and bowls washed daily with warm soapy water. Old water can taste off and even collect stuff like acetone from the air — yuck!

Some pets avoid water because of whisker fatigue or bowl placement. If that’s the case, try adding water to their food or changing up how you serve it.

🚨 Severe dehydration can lead to UTIs or need vet care like fluids under the skin.

In my Pet First Aid & CPR class, you’ll learn how to spot dehydration early, how to help at home, and how to make a simple electrolyte drink.
