We ended the 2024 test season this weekend at West Kentucky HRC. Thanks to the club, judges, and workers that donated their time to put on a great event! Thanks to all my clients for allowing me to live this life and love your pups! Also a special thanks to my buddy and road warrior that’s made all the events this year and works hard behind the scenes taking care of the pups and keeping me dogs at the line ready to run. I couldn’t take a big crew like this without your help!

Our journey for this grand ended early today. We had to use a handle we didn’t have. It’s the grand it’s hard! This is my 9th grand and I’ve learned a lot from every one I’ve ran. I told some of my buddies at dinner the other night that the one constant I’ve learned is it doesn’t matter if you go out in the first or the fourth it takes just as long to drive home as it did to get here. I really appreciate all the support from everyone through calls and texts etc. it means a lot! Time to get back to work so we can come back stronger!

The day I laid eyes on this boy I was in love. From his big beautiful block head to all the power that’s crammed in his body I knew he was special. A champion Boykin is special! It takes a long time and a lot of disciplined training and even then most Boykins don’t have what it takes to get it done. Me and Big Whiskey grew together. I trained him but he taught me a lot about training. We both wanted to do things our own way. I had to figure out how to make us a team and that was a struggle but this summer it finally all came together. As a trainer seeing a dog do good at a test or hunting is what we want but the rewarding moments come when nobody is watching and you see things start to click. When you and the dog finally break down that communication barrier and become a team those are the special moments. Big Whiskey thank you for the paw prints you left on my heart and I’m sorry for the times I was unfair to you out of my own ignorance. I love you big boy you will always be a part of who I am!

The Tomahawk Tribe had another good weekend going 20 for 24. We had one new Hunting Retriever CHAMPION title and three new started titles. Thanks to the club and judges for a fun weekend and to my clients for allowing me to love your dogs! We are hosting a training day here at Tomahawk Kennels with Alabama Boykins next Saturday June 1st starting at 9am. This training day is free and open to everyone.
