Athens-Clarke County is still having issues in regard to staffing and management of the county's animal shelter. During this summer after some of the ongoing shelter issues went public, a supervisor quit and was later replaced by a candidate hired by the Central Services director and the then-current shelter administrator---both of whom have been either demoted or fired. Now, the person who was recently hired to replace the former shelter supervisor is no longer there after having only worked there a few weeks. Athens-Clarke County is still in the process of hiring a director. In the meantime, the staff person who was the part-time volunteer coordinator is now the interim director of the shelter. The Animal Services Supervisor (then shelter administrator) who ordered the unnecessary deaths of 31 cats/kittens is still working there in a supervisory role and is still making decisions about the welfare of shelter animals and those in the community.
In the next few months, hiring qualified people for shelter supervisory roles is of utmost importance. If you know of a qualified individual with good leadership skills and a background in the field, please encourage them to apply.
