Derby is really starting to excel in our classes. He adores attention so much and that was a real distraction for him in the beginning, but now he’s learning all about how positive praise and treats are rewards for doing well in class! Look at him go!

Despite the wind trying to distract all the dogs in class today, with a little help from the program trainer, we were able to get Derby to do “down” which has been a little hard for him since arriving! He’s been on a rest period since his heartworm treatment, so he was also very excited to be participating in the full class today. Yay, Derby!
These two had a sweet time catching up yesterday on the pack hike 🥹❤️. Roxanne is back at the shelter and missed by her former handlers at Corrections, but Tammy is still in “school” and learning all the things. Both are available for adoption or foster!

Several of our current enrollees and a few of our graduates participated in another trail walk this morning with Tails and Trails! The volunteers and advocates showed up for our dogs and they had a great day! We ended the walk with pup cups for all and the program dogs came back to corrections and the graduates headed back to the shelter afterwards. If you’d like more info on any of these dogs, please message us! They are all trained daily and looking for their forever homes.

We have some really great dogs in the program and this morning you’ll have a chance to meet them, hike with them, and also speak with their trainer this morning at 10am at Sandy Creek Nature Center! Come on out and meet your new best friend! Dogs will be arriving on a bus for a special and fun outing and will have pupcups afterwards. Coffee will be available for non-canines ☕️.
Robbie has completed his course with our program and is now seeking his forever home! Check out the connection he has with his handler (this could be YOU!). He’s attentive, always checking in, and eager to please! He is excited for any opportunity to perform all of the tricks he’s learned in class. He returned to the shelter a few weeks ago but came back to Corrections due to a lack of space. All the inmates were so happy to have him back, but they’d love nothing more than to see him find his forever rather than go back to the shelter when they have room. Please consider adding this amazing dog to your family! He’s the ideal companion!

Sadie is our longest term resident and would love to find her forever! She’s the perfect little petite German Shepherd mix and she’s been on two pack hikes with volunteers and each time she gets to go somewhere she has a ball. She prefers to be an only pet, although she has had male canine playmates while in the program.

Cheese is so fun to watch with his handler. It’s evident the connection he’s made with this inmate in the month he’s been a part of the PHB program. His handler takes great pride in working with Cheese to ensure he becomes all he’s meant to be so that he can find his forever home soon.
