A friend of mine recently sent me a Plott female who had stopped eating and that was having major issues with her ears. He had done all he knew to do, taken her for medical intervention, and was worried enough about her suffering to end her misery, and in desperation asked if I could try to help heal her. He had spent a lot of money at the vet to no avail. I told him I would do my best. When she arrived, she had one of the worst cases of ear infection I had ever seen in my life. Her ear canals were closed and rock hard, and blood and pus was oozing out of her ears and she would scream when you messed with her head.
I started her off with a course of antibiotics (feel free to message me for the list of antibiotics, I don't want to be thrown off of FB) and cleaned her ears by first boiling them out with Peroxide, massaging it into her ears and letting her sling her head around for a couple of hours. I then squeezed mineral oil into her ears with a condiment bottle the best I could, massaging her ears thoroughly again. Yes, she screamed and hollered with the massaging, but it is imperative to do so to bust all of that junk loose to make sure what you are squeezing in there can get to where it needs to go. I hated it, but knew it was best for her. I let her rest that night, and the mineral oil helped to ease some of the pain. The following day, I started her on the concoction I have used for a long time, using the ingredients you see here. My hounds rarely have ear issues but when they do I have found this to be the best solution. Some people say hound ear issues are hereditary, but I believe ear issues can be traced to the garbage GMO dog food, widely available today.
Should your dog experience ear issues, feel free to use my recipe:
Take a quart jar and sq**rt a tube of Miconazole 7 (or Monistat 7 - this is the brand name, but more expensive) into it. Please note, Miconazole is more highly rated for killing the infection, but do your own research. Add a tube of Lotrimin, a tube of Vagisil, and stir them all together. Some people will say the Miconazole alone will do the trick, but I add the Vagisil to relieve the itch, and what it doesn't take care of, the Lotrimin will. Add four 4 oz cups of hot, but not boiling black tea. Running it through a Keurig seems to be an optimal temperature. The main thing is not to add boiling tea to the creams, so as not to kill the ingredients. Cap and shake the jar well. Once the ingredients have blended and cooled, use a
6 ml syringe to draw up the mixture and squeeze into the dog's ear canals. Massage thoroughly into each ear. Once a day would probably do the trick, but I prefer once in the morning and once in the evening.
Some of you may read this and think I'm throwing spaghetti on the wall hoping something will stick. You might be right. But with the hundreds of hounds I have owned or hunted for people, there's been a lot of spaghetti thrown. And this spaghetti has stuck.
Again, do your own research, I am not a vet, don't claim to be one, but enjoy this free advice about what has worked for me.
I hope this post heals many hounds and prevents the robbery of your wallet.
Yours for a healthier hound - Jeff Hester
Update: At 10 days into treatment the Plott female is eating great and her ears are recovering nicely. She is probably around 85% cured. I do not know if she has permanent damage or not, but I'm doing all I can do for her and it seems to be working. She suffered for a while before my friend reached out to me.
