The yards at The Athens County Dog Shelter have not been upgraded in quite some time and with the volume of dogs cared for until adoption, improvements are greatly needed! Georgie is an example as to the limitations the yards present. She is a dog that came into the shelter after she and her 9 puppies were found. Talk about a good Momma! Of course the puppies have now been adopted but Georgie sits and waits for her turn. Over 135 days later (now our longest resident), Georgie enjoys walks and being up front with her Bestie at the front desk, but she cannot enjoy the yards as she can climb out. With coyote rollers, Georgie can have a turn in the yards as well.

We need your help! The Athens County Dog Shelter is a staple to our community and many of us have adopted our dogs through them. The greatest gift you can give at this time is to pass a little more comfort and enrichment onto these dogs waiting for their turns to go home.

Hello friends! Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that starting September 1st, 2024, Windy Ridge is increasing daily boarding rates. It is currently $21 per dog per day. It will be going to $24 per dog per day. Multiple dogs sharing a kennel is currently $18 per dog per day. It will go to $21 per dog per day. Please understand that I’ve thought about this for a long time and just couldn’t bring myself to raise rates (last increase was in 2016). But with the operational costs, it’s impossible not to change something. Single pens will still get the 10% extended stay discount (8 full days or longer)
We have the best customers on the planet, and I’ve tried to hold out as long as I can. I hope everyone understands, and I can’t thank yall enough for sticking with us all these years!! Hoping to be here many, many more!

All is well on the ridge this morning! Was up til 2am bc apparently everyone around here has quite the fireworks budget 😬 It’ll be worse tonight, but we’ll have the diffusers going, and sound machines and fans- so the dogs won’t be wise to our antics 🤞 Please make sure you have a tag on your dogs in case they slip out during the loudness. It will cause them to bolt in fear! I love celebrating our independence! Just scary for my friends, so I want to keep them safe!

Last week, we sent a couple of boxes of treats to the Meigs Shelter. The staff accepting the donations were almost moved to tears. Let’s rally together and continue supporting them. If you’re in Pomeroy, please pick up some dog items during your grocery trip. If you’re visiting Athens, anything you buy at Friendly Paws for the shelter is at least 20% off, and we will handle the delivery. Alternatively, you can make a donation, and we’ll ensure they get what they need. This staff needs your support. ❤️‍🩹 Surrounding communities also encouraged to assist.
