I go to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter every Wednesday to give rabies vaccines and veterinary advice. The staff are super dedicated and do everything they can to find homes for all the animals under their care. ***I have never seen them so full as they are now. If you are wanting a new dog or cat friend, please consider the Toccoa Stephens County Humane Shelter.*** It's about 75 minutes north of Athens and the drive is a pretty one.

In this picture I'm doing a laser treatment on Heavy, a dog who was surrendered to the shelter after he was hit by a car. Heavy, who is a super sweet boy, fortunately escaped internal injuries but had horrendous road rash which has responded well to laser therapy and antibiotics. Heavy has a home already, but many dogs and cats there don't.

** Check out the owner comments below! **

Between the holidays and sickness, I was recently out of work for almost a month. This week I've been catching up with my beloved regulars, mostly older animals with significant arthritis. Their owners totally made my week with the following unsolicited messages:

1) "She is already walking some." This came, half an hour after I left, from the owner of a 15 year old Pomeranian who had been having trouble walking. I performed a chiropractic adjustment on her. Several days later her owner said she was "still getting better" and that she was "still weak but they [her legs] are all working now."

2) "FYI [he] seemed to be moving faster this morning." This came the morning after my visit from the owner of a 6 year old Boykin Spaniel who was born with terrible hips and knees. I performed a chiropractic adjustment and some light massage on him, and gave him 2 injections for chronic pain. Several days later his owner said, "He is still doing well. He jumped on sofa on his own several times this week."

3) "He is a new dog. Thank you." This came the morning after my visit from the owner of a 15 year old lab. I performed a chiropractic adjustment and refilled one of his chronic pain medications, which had run out during my unexpected absence.

4) Finally, from my own husband, "The Puzz seems very mobile these days." He sent me this message while he was walking Puzzle, our 10 year old Chihuahua mix who was hit by a car years ago and has unhealed pelvic fractures. Puzzle is on a variety of oral medications and supplements for pain as well as weight control, chiropractic adjustments, and
2 injectable medications for chronic pain. She was becoming less and less mobile a few months ago, only able to go for very short walks, before I added a new medication and got her to slim down a bit. Now she trots happily down the street with my husband.

This is what I love to do! Call or text (706-489-0295) or email ([email protected]) to see how a combination of Western medications and complementary modalities (chiropractic, massage, therapeutic exercise) can help your pet's comfort and mobility. I love making animals more comfortable in the safety and serenity of their own homes.

Bringing comfort to dogs and cats in their own homes

Climbing Rose Veterinary Services was founded in 2017 out of a deep and driving love of animals. We make their comfort our entire focus. We provide chiropractic care, physical rehabilitation, and hospice care in the security of their own home -- no stressful car rides or visits to the vet clinic.

Our veterinary services are provided by Dr. Katherine Fowler, a 2003 graduate of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fowler worked in general small animal practice for 13 years. She is certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association and is currently working toward certification in rehabilitation. She is also a certified Fear Free practitioner.

Please call at 706-489-0295 if you would like more information about how we can help your pet, or if you want to book an appointment. You can also text or email if you prefer. Our email address if [email protected].
