Let's talk piggie hoof cracks

Hoof cracks are from many factors as.... diets high in carbs and starch, long or unbalanced toes, jumping off things like furniture or stairs.

Having this foot trimmed properly you can see the crack is not touching the weight bearing surface now that I trimmed it balanced. Keeping your pig on a short 3-4 month schedule for trims keeps cracks at bay while they continue to grow down from the hairline. A full hoof take 6 months to a year to grown out fully.

🚨Do not fill cracks! This may lead to uneven pressure and or abcesses.

Thrush, thrush and more thrush!

The contracted heels of these horses are almost always compromised with thrush. Making the problem worse.
Heel first landings are key in making a long term sound horse.

I find that if you treat with a non toxic product you have better results.
I recommend:
Artimud
Apple cider vinegar/brown listerine
Athletes foot cream/polysporin
Hoof stuff
Zinc oxide

So many people have asked me about Hoof Armor and how to apply. I recommend it be done by professional the first time so you can see how it's done. The hoof has to be freshly trimmed and cleaned thoroughly... I use a wire brush. I apply to horses with thrush, thin soles, horses that are transitioning out of shoes or even the horse that is just tenderfooted. Only takes about 45 seconds to apply to freshly trimmed hoof! For me to apply it I charge $30 in addition to the trim itself.
