We picked up this TINY little guy at the shelter this morning. He is literally skin and bones! Covered in horribly matted fur. 💔 His foster mom is naming him Tiny Tim! She told us that she’s never felt a dog this emaciated in her life 😞 We can’t wait to see him healthy, strong, and steady on his feet again!

We think he’s an approximately 2 year old Shih Tzu mix. Despite what he’s been through, he’s happy, giving kisses, and wagging his tail 🤍

SOHF is hosting a low-cost pet vaccine clinic on Sunday, December 8 from 2-4 PM at Barrow County Animal Control in Winder. We will also offer microchipping for dogs and cats. All dogs and cats at least six weeks of age are welcome; Barrow county residency is not required. Payment must be made in cash. PLEASE NOTE — if your pet cannot maintain decorum in line around other people and pets and be easily handled by our veterinary staff, we will unfortunately be unable to serve you.

This is an indoor event so don’t let the threat of rain prevent you from coming.

Say hello to Stewey! That crooked underbite of his is just too cute. This little man is an 11 lb Shih Tzu/Poodle mix and he’s about four years old. Stewey came to us from a local shelter and his coat was so matted that it came off in one piece when we shaved him down (see pic below). He had been encased in wet, filthy fur for so long that he had developed a severe skin infection. After recovering in a wonderful foster home for a few weeks he is totally healthy now.

Stewey is a lot of fun and he is so sweet. This little lovebug soaks up attention and affection like a sponge. He is great with the other dogs in his foster home but he is dominant with dogs who are smaller than him. He would do best either as an only dog or with dogs who are a good bit larger than him. Stewey is totally house-trained and he is good on a leash. He hopes for a home with someone who is home most of the day so he can keep them company. Declan (left) and Weston are 5 month old Maltese/Poodle mix brothers. Declan is 9 lbs and Weston is 6 lbs. Declan has the cutest underbite! Both boys are very similar in personality.

They love to be held and to get pet. They’re both crate-trained and working on house-training. They enjoy running around the fenced in yard with their foster dog siblings and playing with toys.

They do require regular grooming due to their breed mixture, and both are good about getting baths and did well for their haircuts

Meet Tucker, an adorable 6-month-old male Shih Tzu! This sweet boy may be a little shy at first, but once he’s comfortable, he’s all about cuddles, playtime, and plenty of love.
Tucker is a soft, little teddy bear who loves to be petted and will melt your heart with his gentle nature. He’s doing great with house training and is already crate trained. Tucker enjoys playing with toys and bones, and he does wonderfully on leash walks.

He’s great with other dogs and would thrive in a home with at least one canine companion to help him build confidence. This is REQUIRED.

Meet our newest rescue. I've named her Muffin and approximating her age at twelve. She is both visually and hearing impaired but incredibly sweet, cuddly and happy. She is in a temporary situation in central Georgia but we are bringing her to Savannah in the next 48 hours.

Meet Levi, the sweetest little poodle mix you’ll ever meet! This 4 to 5-year-old, 7-pound bundle of energy is always up for playtime and adventure. Levi’s handsome, curly coat and big smile will melt your heart, and his happy personality makes him a joy to be around. He loves playing with other dogs and is perfectly fine with cats, too.

Levi is crate trained and making great progress with house training. As a true “velcro pup,” he adores being close to his people and would thrive in a home where he won’t be left alone for long periods.
