The holidays can be one of the most joyful and fun times of the year. But nothing can spoil good cheer like an emergency trip to the veterinary clinic. These tips can help keep your winter holiday season fun and safe for your pets:

🎄Christmas tree: Can tip over and cause injury; also, pine needles can cause intestinal irritation/upset if ingested
🌿Poinsettia: Toxic to dogs and cats due to sap - can cause intestinal upset and/or excessive drooling
🍫 Chocolate: Toxic to dogs and cats - can cause intestinal upset, tremors, seizures and even death
🪩 Ornaments/decorations: Can cause intestinal irritation and/or blockages if ingested
🌱Holly/mistletoe: Toxic to dogs and cats - can cause severe intestinal upset
🍷Alcohol: Can cause dangerous drops in blood sugar, blood pressure, and body temperature. Severely intoxicated animals can potentially experience seizures and respiratory failure.
🍗 Fatty foods: Can cause pancreatitis in dogs and cats.
🕯️Candles and fires: Can cause burns or start a fire if knocked over.

By being aware of these holiday hazards, you can help keep your pets safe and happy during the holiday season.

Raise your hand if you love Churu! 🖐️

Meet Miss Kitty! She came in today for her wellness exam and got to enjoy a Churu while she was here!

We try to make every appointment with our feline friends as fear free as possible using treats like Churu, Feliway calming spray, gentle handling, going slow, and being patient. We believe every animal deserves a stress free visit at the vet as fearful visit can make future visit more difficult and scary. The goal is always for a happy relaxing visit! 🙂

‼️ATTENTION‼️
Leptospirosis is now considered a core vaccine for our canine friends! All animals can become infected as well as humans. The vaccine will protect your pet and you!

🚨 Important Update: Leptospirosis Now a Core Vaccine for ALL Dogs
The 2022 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines have been updated to classify the leptospirosis vaccine as CORE for all dogs starting at 12 weeks of age – regardless of lifestyle, location, or breed.
Why the change?
🌆 ALL dogs are at risk—urban, suburban, and rural.
⚠️ Potentially fatal, even with treatment.
🔄 Zoonotic—it can spread from pets to humans.
🏢 Dogs in daycare and kennels also face exposure risks.
You can find the full update in the Nov/Dec issue of JAAHA, or check out the full 2022 Canine Vaccination Guidelines here: aaha.org/canine-vaccinations
