Has your dog or cat had a rabbit hide? Did you know fur is a great source of fiber and can act as a natural dewormer? It can also help with diarrhea and is a healthier option than Metronidazole (Flagyl). Diarrhea often times isn't caused by an infection. So why give an antibiotic? AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control Officials) is a volunteer organization of feed control officials who define feed ingredients, write nutritional guidelines, and influence regulatory practices. That said, they don't actually regulate, inspect, or test pet foods or other animal feed and they have no authority to "approve" foods, issue recalls, issue stop sales, or do any other act consistent with an authoritative body.
Companies claiming to be "AAFCO Approved" are merely saying that their foods meet the nutritional minimums recommended by AAFCO, not that a representative of AAFCO tested their food and gave it a stamp of approval. The term "AAFCO Approved", therefore, is meaningless and misleading for ANYONE to make.
The confusion regarding AAFCO's authority may come from the interesting power structure between FDA, state regulatory bodies, and AAFCO. Both and truthaboutpetfood.com have documented this extensively and we highly recommend checking out their bodies of work!
In short, we don't claim AAFCO Approved because there is no such thing as any animal food product that is AAFCO Approved, because AAFCO doesn't actually hold any regulatory authority. We would much rather speak to our ingredients, formulation and sourcing because those are the things that actually matter - misleading and meaningless claims only cause confusion and false security.

Have you been to an AAFCO meeting and heard the horrors of what is in these brands you are recommending to your readers? Of course you haven’t! You wouldn’t be recommending them if you had.
