It is with a mix of joy and bittersweet emotion that we announce the retirement of Dr. Steven Whittle, owner of Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic, after more than 35 incredible years serving the Vinings community.
Dr. Whittle’s journey in veterinary medicine began in Louisville, KY, where he was born and raised. After earning his Bachelor of Animal Science degree from the University of Kentucky and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Auburn University, Dr. Whittle dedicated himself to the care and wellbeing of animals. His career, which began in 1990, led him to purchase Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic in 1998 from its founders, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Wylie, who started the practice in 1971.
Since that time, Dr. Whittle has become an integral part of the Vinings community, not only as a compassionate and skilled veterinarian but as a friend, mentor, and neighbor. He has worked tirelessly to support local schools, rescue groups, and countless community initiatives. His philosophy of care—“What would I do if this were my pet?”—has touched the lives of so many, both two- and four-legged.
Dr. Whittle’s wife, Fran, has been by his side every step of the way. The two met at Auburn University in 1987, married in 1991, and together raised a beautiful family, including their two daughters, twin boys, and their beloved Boykin Spaniels, Lola and Jake, as well as their cats, Cupcake and Percy. Dr. Whittle’s love for his family, his church, and his community is evident in all that he does, from volunteering and cooking to caring for his cherished pets.
Dr. Whittle’s dedication, kindness, and humor will leave an indelible mark on our clinic and the Vinings community. Though he will be greatly missed by clients and staff alike, we are excited for him to embark on this new chapter, spending well-earned time with his family and pursuing his many passions.
Please join us in celebrating Dr. Whittle’s outstanding career and legacy.
