Hello All! We apologize for the lack of communication as of late! Due to farm renovations (that are going VERY slowly) we will be temporarily closed until well after this season! We are hoping to the sky and back to have everything completed, or at least safe for riders, by October when we will be (Hopefully) hosting a Halloween event as our first open house! Please continue to check back for updates and we thank you for your patience. Those of you who were excited to start lessons this year, we apologize and will be honoring any lesson plans as soon as we construct a safe arena!

Respect everyone who uses our roads this summer, from horses and riders to motorcycles! This goes for the multi-use trails in the area as well. DO NOT harass horse riders with your quads or ATVs. Pull over and turn off your engines if you can. Stopping for 2 minutes isn't going to ruin your fun day of trail riding, but zooming past us my just ruin our entire lives!

H.K.S Equine & Dentistry by Harley Socia came to fix up our older horses and get them back on track! Cassie was a trooper and Mr. Lucky duck had to have a dose of dorm, and thank goodness for it. Overall not a terrible time. See you in 6 months Harley!

Snow packed hooves can contribute to sole bruising. Walking around on balls of ice can also cause twisting of the ankle or tendon injuries. Do your best to keep hooves picked out. In addition, your shoer may have special shoeing suggestions to help prevent snow packing.

We don't just have horses here at the farm! We have all sorts of dogs too! This is Roo, she's a year old Great Pyrenees, Golden Retriever mix and when she first came to the farm she was pretty sure responding to recall was way too difficult. She just loved running wild through the neighborhood! The only way to catch her was to lay flat on the ground start calling in a very high pitched voice and as much fun as it was for both of us, we decided some training was needed.

The clip below shows the results of months of recall training (safely on a long lead) and positive reinforcement of the behaviors we want to see! You hear me rattle a cup at the end of clip as a way to tell her "good job!".

Recall training is extremely important for our dogs and while Roo is very responsive in this clip I would never be so bold as it think I could safely let her off leash in any public space. Leashes aren't meant to hinder and oppress your dogs they are meant to keep them safe! Please practice safe methods of walking your dogs out in public spaces like hiking trails, be cause even if your dog is friendly, mine might not be!

One month, one week, and two days. That's how long it's been since my community gathered together to bring this horse back home. I only got one, bad, photo of him right before he ran through the pen, scared, pacing, and looking for a way out. He was thin and muddy... and I was heartbroken. At the end of the day I let this horse down, but so did so many other people. This horse isn't mean, or dangerous.... unless you give him reason to be. This horse is the reason I want young people looking to get into horses and their families to LEARN. Learn about horses before you plunge into ownership. Learn that horses aren't just giant dogs. They can hurt you, they can kill you on accident, they can kill you on purpose... and no matter what you think, you'll never stop them. Horses aren't animals to dominate over, they are animals to build partnerships with. I see so many young people lately clinging to the ideation of horse ownership, of bonding with a 1000 # animal like on heartland or flika, and then crumbling when it goes wrong. Horses aren't a cuddly part time pet. They are late nights walking in circles for colic, they are long hot days making sure the fences are secure, they are hauling 100s of bales of hay and stacking them by hand in 100% humidity and 90 degree heat. They are spending 10s of 1000s of dollars on shelters and stalls to have them stand out in the rain and snow and sun, heads down, looking like ASPCA rejects. They are a constant source of anxiety. And not everyone is cut out for the life of horse ownership. Not everyone is built for this life. And that's okay. That's why places like Luckyhoof Farm exist. That's why I am still alive. That's why soon, in the next few weeks, Luckyhoof Farm will finally have its grand opening. We will be returning to lessons, boarding, and even a little bit of training as the summer goes on and we turn to fall. Our mascot is home, and so are we. Welcome, once more, to Luckyhoof Farm.
