Abby (on the left) is about 7 or 8 years old and Lexi (on the right) is about 8 or 9 months old. Lexi was recently adopted and we started her training program shortly after. In her intensive program we have put a really big focus on her spot command. Teaching a younger dog to lay down and stay can help in a million different ways. Potty training, chewing, barking, etc. The spot is also an amazing way to help an older dog get along with the new younger sibling. It’s not always fair to bombard our older pups with the young puppy energy 24/7. Now that Lexi knows how to stay on her spot, Abby can come and go as she pleases. So if she needs a little break from Lexi, all she has to do is walk away. At the end of our session we caught this cute little moment so I had to post a pic. This is the first time Lexi and Abby have shared a bed together.

My Poodle, Enzo, is helping us out during Ellie’s session! We are supposed to be practicing some socialization, but these lovebirds are just busy staring into each other’s eyes haha 😍😂

Milo the 2.5 year old Frenchie cracks me up with those eyes 👁️👁️🤣🤣

This adorable pup had a very rough start to his life. He had very serious gastrointestinal issues that made him very weak and sickly. Unfortunately, he did not have energy to be a typical puppy. Luckily, Dr.Olsen at saved the day! Now, Milo is a healthy and happy wild man making up for lost time.

Now that Milo is healthy enough to have a more normal / typical life, he needs a little help with manners, leash walking and listening around distractions. We are about halfway through his program and he has been a great little student!!

Way to go, Milo 👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

We have been so busy this summer that it has been difficult to keep up with posting all the pups we are working with! We started Dukes program a few months ago and are actually wrapping up his last few sessions by the end of the month. This adorable little dude seems to be a Boxer / Rottweiler mix and he was about 1 year old when we started training. In Dukes program we are focusing on manners, recall, leash walking and listening around distractions. This guy has been a super star from the very start and I’m excited for the next phase of his training. We are finally ready to take the training wheels off and get him around some new distractions and into some new environments.

It’s raining Cavashons!!! I am currently working with like 5 Cavashons and they have all been great little students. This is my newest student, Lexi! Lexi is about 6 months old and she just started her In-Home Intensive program today. After our first workout, she can barely keep her eyes open. I see a big after training nap in her future 💤 💤 🔮🔮

Say hello to Ellie the Cavashon!! We started her basic training program a few months ago but life got crazy for her family and we had to take a break. In order to work around their busy schedule we decided to upgrade to our In-Home Intensive program. In-Home Intensive is our alternative to boarding and it typically offers the best of both worlds. We can get the dog and owner trained quickly without needing to board!! In the end, I don’t need Ellie to listen to me at my house, I need her to listen to her owner at their house.

Session 1 for Maggie the 7 month old Cavashon!!!

In session 1 we typically prefer to start with the basics and crate training. A proper introduction to the crate can help with potty training, anxiety and a long list of other undesirable behaviors. For a puppy, this crate concept in itself can really be the difference between a puppy ruling the house or a puppy minding the rules.

In Maggie’s program, we are going to focus on basic obedience, manners and overall safety.

Session 2 for Esperanza the 2 year old Chihuahua mix!!

In my last post about Esperanza, i was talking about our big goal to help her with separation anxiety. Today we started to introduce the spot command to help us on our journey.

The spot can be a really great way to help small dogs that are constantly at our feet. It can sometimes be dangerous having them weaving in between our legs while we are walking or carrying things. In this program specifically, we are using the spot as a way to help Esperanza feel more comfortable when she is not right next to her owner. Little bits of separation in daily life can help take the edge off of the stress of her owner leaving the house. A little progress every day!!

Session 1 is in the books for Bonnie the 10 month old Mini-Goldendoodle!! This little pup is super sweet but could use a little help with manners when people come over to visit. We are going to focus on jumping, leash walking, down stay and coming when called in her training program. Stay tuned for updates!!

Poppy the English Lab is just about 4 months old but we started her program at 2 months. She finally has enough training in place to start introducing some bigger real life distractions.

Today we introduced my dogs, Forrest the Shepherd mix and Enzo the Standard Poodle. Teaching puppies to lay down and stay can be a HUGE help in almost every aspect of life but it can especially be helpful for socialization. As Poppy starts to grow up and explore the world, we might not want her physically greeting every single dog that we come in contact with. Some dogs that we come across are not super social with new dogs. For Poppy’s safety, we need a way to manage her around new dogs. If her owners decide that a new dog is safe enough to be greeted, then we can absolutely give her permission to run over and say hello. Until that choice is made….lay down and stay 👍🏻👍🏻

This is Esperanza the 2 year old rescue Chihuahua mix! I absolutely love her signature underbite 😂. I’m telling you, this picture does not even capture how cute this little pup truly is haha.

We just started an obedience program for Esperanza to help her learn to feel more comfortable when she is left home alone. Crate training is always a great first step for separation anxiety. Stay posted for updates!!

***CLIENT UPDATE*** Lucy and Scout wrapped up their program a few months ago but their owners have done a fantastic job keeping up with the training. If clients continue to use and practice the training, things continue to get better overtime. Here is a video of Scout and Lucy walking Off-Leash as a pack! Great job guys 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Formal off leash training can really help us level up our obedience. If our dogs listen to direction off the leash, they will listen even better when the leash is on. We also need “off leash” for recall and more functional use of our training. Having said that, we really have to be careful because a lot of places have leash laws and we also want to keep our pups safe around bigger distractions. A trained puppy is NOT a sad puppy. I see a lot of people that assume training restricts dogs or limits how much fun they can have. That could not be further from the truth. Not only does formal training help reduce a dogs level of stress, it can also maximize our relationship. Training strengthens our bond and helps our pups understand that we are looking out for them. If I have said it once, I’ve said it a million times; trained dogs get to have MORE fun and come along on MORE adventures. Millie the 5 month old Aussiechon is moving through the second half of her program and the training is really starting to fall into place. Although this is not a perfect heel command it is super super close!! A couple inches to the left and she would of hit the mark perfectly 🎯 In our training, coming when called is an absolute nonnegotiable! It is a very difficult command to master but it is hands down one of the most important things we could ever teach. Reliable recall is crucial for keeping our dogs safe. Some people don’t fully recognize how on & off leash training are connected. If we want strong “off leash” training, we need strong “on leash” training. When it comes to recall, coming when called is an “off leash” training application. So in order to accomplish reliable recall, we are going to need an on leash foundation to build on.
